Who Was Jesus?

The prophets foretold that the Messiah would perform miracles, and they even specified many of the types of miracles that He would perform. We are told that the Messiah would heal the blind, the deaf, the lame and the dumb, and that overall He would have a healing ministry. As you will see, Jesus performed all of these miracles and more during His ministry.

Prophecy - "Then will the eyes of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped. Then will the lame leap like a deer, and the mute tongue shout for joy. Water will gush forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert." (Isaiah 35:5-6)

Fulfillment -

The blind man said, 'Rabbi, I want to see.'

'Go,' said Jesus, 'your faith has healed you.' Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road." (Mark 10:51-52)

Prophecy - "to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness." (Isaiah 42:7)

Fulfillment - "As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, 'Have mercy on us, Son of David!'

When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, 'Do you believe that I am able to do this?'

'Yes, Lord,' they replied.

Then he touched their eyes and said, 'According to your faith will it be done to you'; and their sight was restored. Jesus warned them sternly, 'See that no one knows about this.'" (Matthew 9:27-30)

Prophecy - "Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted." (Isaiah 53:4)

Fulfillment - "He went down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his disciples was there and a great number of people from all over Judea, from Jerusalem, and from the coast of Tyre and Sidon, who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. Those troubled by evil spirits were cured, and the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all." (Luke 6:17-19)

Jesus surely had a healing ministry. Everywhere He went during the three years that He preached, He healed all kinds of diseases and drove out demons. He never turned anyone away who asked to be healed, and never judged anyone. His power of healing was in fact so powerful that even when He wasn't looking people who touched Him were healed.

In we learn of a woman who had a disease that caused her to bleed for twelve years. While Jesus was fighting His way through a crowd she sneaked up behind Him and touched His clothes. Immediately she was healed. Jesus knew that power had gone out from Him, so He asked the crowd who had touched Him. The woman finally confessed that it was she, and Jesus said, "your faith has healed you" and He told her to go in peace.

Jesus frequently said, "your faith has healed you" whenever a person was healed. He never boasted, and He never took any credit for himself for the miracles that He performed. He always gave all of the credit to His Father, because He was genuinely humble, and because He understood His mission. He was simply here to do God's will, and this very fact fulfilled numerous prophecies. Click 'Next' to see what was foretold about the Messiah coming to do God's will.
