Abt 1793 settled in Oromocto, Burton Parish, Sunbury Co, NB
After buying this huge chunk of land, Stephen Peabody and his wife Elizabeth
became active in selling land to willing settlers. Within the area
surrounding the Rusagonis stream Samuel and Stephen Peabody sold to several
people including Samuel Nevers, Hannah Peabody, Jacob Grass, George Hayward,
Zopher Phillips, Thomas Smith, Jeremiah Smith, Daniel Wood, James Bryson,
Patrick Duggan, James Forbes, Daniel Conley and Thomas Waugh. Many of these
made up the primary settlers in the area between 1795-1815. After Stephen
Peabody died, his wife moved to Douglas but continued to sell her land in
Rusagonis until 1875.

On the ship Nancy captained by John Ewing and left Rotterdam in the Netherlands via Cowes, Eng arriving Philladelphia on Sep 27 1752 was George Grass.
GRASS IN CANADA (LUENBURG CO) BEFORE 1783 LOYALISTS
SEE CONRAD GRASS 1726
unrelated but same time period
Conrad Grass(Another record lists last name as Cross on this Family????)( Original info from Luenburg records list name as Grass) May 30 1752 arrived on the BETTY, Robert Wandin, Master. He was from Switzerland and a farmer. He was one of the "Foreign Protestants" to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Doesn't mention family but says he is 26. Marries a Jeanbar in Halifax. Two families of Jeanbar on same ship.
In the early 1800's, the DeGrass/DeGrasse family around the Bathurst area had some neighbors to the south in Carleton County by the name of DeGrass. In Woodstock, lived a George DeGrass who had emigrated from Germany. He Had at least three sons by the name of George, Jr, Edward and Charles. At the same time, according to the 1889 Monitor Acadien article there lived in Waasis, St John River a family by the name of Grass. They were Jacob, Amos, George and several other members of the family. They claimed that they were descendents of Antoine and the reason for the name change was to fit in with their predominatetly English neighbors.
James May be Jacobs first name--I had the source in my files that got erased--I will have to find it again- I believe it was that his son is James Jacob, Jr. (ALTHOUGH SOMEONE IN OUR GENEALOGY FAMILY TOLD ME THAT JR BACK THEN DID NOT MEAN SAME NAME????????) 1892 death of son James lists father as James Grass and mother as Priscilla Mills. That's where James Jacob came from.
Oct 10 1758====Just found a Jacob Grass christened at St John Angl. Church, Luenburg, NS- Could be son of Conrad
Just lots more questions for this family.
Notes for PRISCILLA MILLS:

Applied for pension in 1841 as widow of Jacob Grass-On the list in 1843 age 65 and 1846 age 68 living Burton----This makes her born in 1778 but the census says she was 23 in 1789 which makes her born in 1766 are we talking about two different people here, or are dates of records wrong????? In 1851 she was 75 years old which confirms the 1776 birth. More checking needed
1851 in residence of Joseph Howland (Howlin)(Howling) and some say grand-daughter Sarah. If she is the granddaughter then her parents are George & Eunice Kenney.
1858: Received Pension file from PANB about Priscilla Mills. Out of 17 pages of records this is all that was found. She died later part of March 1858 while residing with her son Daniel Grass in Burton where she had lived for several years. She was reported to be the widow in one paper and entitled to Jacob Grass's Revolutionary War Pension. She received L10 per year. She was reported as the relic of Jacob Grass in her sons affidavid.
Are Priscilla Mills and Elizabeth Mills (married son William) related?
Loyalists Book:(R Whitmore) There is a John Mills, Farmer listed with two sisters. Could they be related? Is one of them Priscilla?? An E-mail request returned info that John had no relative by the name of Priscilla.

Entire Line getting too big. I have transfered the info to Rootsweb and you can download a GEDCOM of the family. I also have to put the families in groups because of the size of the files. Gets too bulky. This way when I make a change I can update easily.
