Townland needs to be determined - could be one of above:
Ann O'Brien (married to James Doyle in Oulart, near
Enniscorthy, Wexford.)
We know all of their descendants pretty much, as they all settled
in Margaree, Cape Breton more or less.
Ann lived through the Battle of Oulart's Hill of May 26, 1798,
(they lived below the Hill) and lost her son-in-law Thomas
Fortune either in that battle or later that summer in another
battle. Her only son Mogue fought, was suppose to have been a
local rebel captain, was captured, imprisoned, escaped and got on
board a vessel for Nova Scotia in disguise.
Uncles Edward Hayes and Kavanaugh (first Catholic member of
Parliament in the whole British Empire, representing Cape Breton
in Halifax for the colony of Nova Scotia) helped him go to ground
and work safely until The Act of Union of 1801, when he could
return to mother Ann in Oulart under amnesty, and work the farm.
On the death of Edward hayes in Nova Scotia, Mogue inherited a
legacy, enough to emigrate to Margaree, and to settle the Valley
with many more from his family. So Ann O'Brien would be wonderful
to find. We've found Mogue's grave stone in Margaree, but it
would be great to get somewhere on the Ireland side of the
investigation.

Ballymoney
Pauline Ferrie : [email protected] - (O'Brien 1822 now
WEX,IRL>ENG>GAL,IRL ferrie -earlier probably from Dublin!)
Wexford: came from Wexford, though they might have originated in
South County Dublin (Kiltiernan). Her greatgrandparents lived
Ballymoney, near Gorey, and their names were Raymond and
Anastasia (Eustace) O'Brien.
They had five sons and one daughter, my grandfather having been
born in the mid-1860s, but I have no idea what siblings my
greatgrandfather had.

Enniscorthy
Wexford: Daniel and Sarah O`Brien lived on Nunnery road
Enniscorthy co. Wexford Ireland.Daniels`father was Hugh and his
mother was Alice or Alicia and he was born in the Shannon Hill
area of Enniscorthy
(Hugh Brien, aged 42 (moulder), son of Daniel Brien, Shannon,
married Alice Brien, aged 26, daughter of Peter Brien, Shannon,
Enniscorthy, 27th October, 1877. Witnesses were Michael Quinn and
Margaret Kehoe.)

Wexford: Richard O'Brien (m. Margaret ?)(via sons death
records), (probably County Wexford, place unknown). There is a
story of a connection to Enniscorthy area. (There is no evidence
they left).
Sons James (b.1838) and his brother John O'Brien (b. 1835) came
to US. prior to 1860. A possible third brother Edward is
mentioned in oral tradition
Emigration: Two brothers may have come to US around 1850 (maybe
1954).
Misc Note: There were probably other brothers, however we have no
names.....bet one of them was Richard! These O'Brien's had no
imagination when it came to first names. First two boys after the
grandfathers, 3rd boy after the father...etc.)...
Settlement: Jim married Mary Graham in 1860 who was born in US.
They had 13 children, 7 of whom died of diphtheria in 1882 the
same week! One of these dead kids was names George, and one
Richard. They went on to name two other of their children Richard
and George. George number two being the cousin who moved to
Chicago and opened a tavern. And Richard number two was nicknamed
RM and he is the father of Father Dick O'Brien that just died. RM
became a very
wealthy real estate developer in Chicago in the 30's.
John O'Brien married a young girl named Kate McKenna. I know for
a fact that
Kate immigrated in 1856. She married John in 1861. All of their
children
were born in US. Their son John was my husband Jim's grandfather.
I
always tell my husband that his past is so close to him. His
father Bill,
lived in the same house with Kate McKenna and she didn't die
until 1923. She
was born 163 years ago, yet my husband Jim has spoken to someone
who had
spoken to her.
(He joined the Army during the Civil War and was taken prisoner
in Richmond, possible Libby Prison, he then returned to New York
and died on the farm in Central Square.New York where he lived
his entire life in US (Storey so far unconfirmed). Farm is now a
golf course.

Wexford: Sarah O'Brien's father was named Nicholas and
there was some connection to Port Laoise Laoise. I believe Sarah
may have been born there when it was known as Maryborough,
Laoise.
My grandmother, Sarah O'Brien (used to talk to her son ie.
Bernards father in Irish) , (m. James Bowman) was the cousin of
one Davy Brien, well known in the town. Sarah had 10 children (7
born in Ireland, 3 born in England).
My father went to school with one P.J. O'Brien in Enniscorthy,
circa 1930's, who later moved to Florida. He married in 1950.
My mother's uncle, Bill O'Brien, was apprenticed to Courtenay the
barber in Enniscorthy early this century. He left around 1920 or
so, in a dispute w/the IRA. (Their policy was that nobody was
allowed to quit.) He ended up
in Queens, New York and gave me my first haircut in 1954 (they
waited so he could preside - my hair was quite long by the time
they caught up w/him.)
The story, as it picks up in Ireland, is that my grandfather (the
1916 vet)
was now REALLY upset. Not only had his son served in the King's
service, he
had married an Englishwoman! He wouldn't talk to her at first,
until she
pointed out to him that A)She was an O'Brien; B) She was related
to "half the
people in town (Enniscorthy)" and C) What kind of Irish name
is Wilson in the
first place?

Wexford: From Enniscorthy; Patrick (Michael?) O'Brien (m.
Catherine Murphy in Enniscorthy). Their 6 children were born in
Ireland.
Emigration: After 1840 Patrick died in peat bog in ? & rest
of family went to Stoco Parish, Ontario & then to Old Town
line near Bancroft, Ontario. (Some later settled in Marmara,
Ontario). In 1851 Catherine (Murphy) O'Brien married James Irwin
her second husband in Belleville, Ontario.

Wexford: Edward O'Brien and Ann More/Moore were from
county Wexford (parts unknown). Came to Perth, Ontario, Canada
with sons Thomas & William. Sons settled & remained in

Wexford: Anna O'Brien b. Oct. 1868 (m. John Dooley b. Feb.
1866) (Source: 1920 census). They left Ireland in 1888.
Emigration: They left Ireland in 1888 and settled in Elizabeth,
New Jersey.
Misc: While in Broadway in Elizabeth, NJ Anna O'Brien & John
Dooley were living with Mary, Thomas, James and William
(Dooley?). In the apt next to them are Patrick Gleason and his
wife Mary left Ireland in 1888 (from 1900 census from Elizabeth,
New Jersey). Living with them were William and Michael O'Brien
brother in laws to Patrick Gleason who also left Ireland in 1888.
This suggests that Mary Gleason (b. Dec 1869), Michael O'Brien
(b. Feb 1872) & William O'Brien (b. Dec 1867) are siblings or
cousins to Anna O'Brien Dooley (b. Oct 1868).
Family lore had it that one day they went off to church and just
kept going
all the way to the USA. No one knew if they were married or not
at the time.
Says Anna was only about 16 or so when they eloped. (Census says
b.1866 and arrived in USA in 1888 which is close).
Other family lore says that they went to Albany and stayed with a
relative
possibly her sister or Aunt. The name I have been given is
Bridget Enright.
The fact that they went to NY first is correct. Their daughter ,
Mary was
born there in Aug 1888. That birth fact leads me to believe Anna
was
pregnant when she left Ireland. The 1900 census says their son
Thomas was
born in NY but the 1920 census says NJ. He is their 2nd son. I
know for a
fact the third child, James , was born in Newark , NJ in Dec
1894. James is
my grandfather. The 2 O'Brien boys are listed as railroad
laborers, John
Dooley is listed as a railroad inspector.

are:
/Lawrence REDMOND & Mary O'BRIEN.
(Elizabeth's husband, Thomas W. FORTUNE told their granddaughter
that 'their' church in Ireland would not marry them because he

that they were from the same area in Ireland before coming to
