Rejection

The clouds over the moon
seemed reptilian
and the dry leaves on
the pavement
and the chill of the night
dulled my sensations.
It seemed like something
was looming
and then I saw your face
and it broke my heart.
There I stood with your eyes
tearing me apart
and I wanted to scream
and I wanted to cry
but I gave you a smile
and passed right by
and the dry leaves seemed
to follow me home
empty and used up
and very alone.

Written by Ginny for her mother Ginger while
she waiting for the first meeting with her
daughter Kathleen
