During the long Indiana winters, when I can't ride my bike and am not on the computer, I enjoy leathercarving. That is the art of carving a design or picture onto a piece of raw leather and then making something useful out of it, such as a wallet, purse, knifesheath, etc. This is a dying art and not to many leathercrafters are left. I belong to the Calumet Area Leathercrafters Guild and the International Federation of Leathercrafters; they put on shows a couple of times per year where we get to show off our skills to the world and earn a chance to become a master leathercaver.
