           The Ship             Ports of Call

After reading the Renaissance message board before my Iberian trip, I decided to put together this page in hopes that others may benefit in one way or another from the experiences of our Iberian Cruise package of this pass January.

The Package

15x15.gif (830 bytes)The 11 day/9night package consisted of airfare from Newark to Lisbon, three nights in Lisbon, Portugal at the Sheraton  Lisboa Towers, a four day cruise around the Iberian Peninsula to Barcelona,Spain, two nights in Barcelona and return airfare to Newark.

15x15.gif (830 bytes)The cruise portion of our trip had two ports of call in addition to Lisbon and Barcelona. Cadiz and Malaga. Cadiz is located on the Atlantic coast of Spain and Malaga is located on the Mediterranean Coast of Spain. The cruise normally includes only two nights in Lisbon and Gibraltar as an additional port of call. It was rumored that there was something having to do with the military in Gibraltar and thus the change in the itinirary.

The Fight Over

The first leg of our trip was from Newark to Lisbon. We were setup with Continental for the flight over.  Get plenty of sleep, the day of your flight. Our flight left at around 7:00pm, and you're in the air all night, so that's were the 11th day comes in. I count it as a day and Renaissance doesn't. There are bench seats in the airport that allow for a bit of stretching out if you arrive earlier in the day. Once you're on the plane, you're pretty much looking to pull an all nighter. Some people can sleep on the plane, I can't. Dinner is served about two hours after take off and then you have about two hour or so of down time before they start passing out breakfast. It's about 7:30am when you land in Lisbon and by the time you get your luggage and clear the airport and make it to hotel, it's around 9:30-10:00am.
