 The extraordinary port of Manzanillo is located 98 km west of Colima city by the federal highways 200 and 110.   Among many entertainment options, Manzanillo is the ideal place for practicing aquatic sports, especially fishing, since it is known as the sailfish world capital.   The port of Manzanillo, Mexico is made up of two separate bays, divided by the Peninsula of Santiago.   On the left is the Bay of Santiago, followed by a smaller notched out area, known as Playa Audiencia.   On the right-hand side, is the Bay of Manzanillo.   Both bays are more than five miles long and offer a variety of water sports activities. The Manzanillo extended beaches with fine sand, gentle waves and temperate waters are its main attraction.   It is a beautiful beach city where you can enjoy the sea as if it was yours. 
 
 

          Manzanillo is one of Mexico's most important trade links to Asia, the United States, and the rest of Latin America.   Manzanillo is also famous for world acclaimed deep sea fishing.   Mexico's largest lagoon is in Manzanillo, and close by are cascading waterfalls, clear rivers, tropical rain forests and pre-Columbian ruins.   Downtown Manzanillo has a cultural museum, civic center, and shopping for serious bargain hunters.  Manzanillo is a rainy season, however, it does not mean it rains all day, every day.   Usually it rains every three or four days, when the humidity finally builds up enough to create a soft rain shower in the later afternoon or evening, cooling everything off, and washing the dust off the tropical foliage.   After more than six months without rain, the forest seems to come alive overnight.   Most tourists are unaware of the advantages of visiting Manzanillo in the summer, and miss the spectacular tropical rain forests the deserted beaches and lower prices, but for those who live there year around, it is a favorite time to enjoy Colima to the fullest. At higher altitudes there is more rain and cooler breezes.  Hurricane season is generally from mid June through October, however, Manzanillo and its bays are tucked underneath a point of land known as Cabo Corrients, most hurricanes are directed to the north, closer to Cabo San Lucas in Baja California or Puerto Vallarta in Jalisco.  Unfortunately, it is Manzanillo that get the bad press. 

          Manzanillo, Mexico has hundreds of hotels and motels, from 5 star to budget class.   Generally, the budget hotels are in downtown Manzanillo, while the higher priced ones are in the Hotel Zone (Zona Hotelera) or the Peninsula de Santiago.   Rooms prices vary depending on the time year.
