SATURDAY 8th MAY, WAS CASK MILD ALE DAY, WHEN DRINKERS WERE ENCOURAGED TO "Try Mild In May,"

Locally nothing much happened, but the Blue Bell at Hardingswood made a real effort and served several different cask milds throughout the month, with at least one always being available.

I went to Manchester, where a Mild Day crawl around the city centre was held. Starting off at the Beer House, just off Rochdale Road, and ending up at the Crown at the other end of Deansgate. A total of 13 pubs, 13 different milds and four and a half miles walked.

Only three souls managed the entire walk, as most took short cuts by missing pubs out. I joined at the Jolly Angler in Ducie Street, where their excellent Hyde's dark mild made the trip from Stoke worthwhile.

My thanks to Pete Cash and Co. who kindly invited me to join the Manchester contingent for one of Idy's excellent curries at the Beer House prior to the final 10 furlong leg of the crawl. As it was raining we jumped on a tram, so we cheated ever so slightly!
