BYE-BYE SCRUFFY'S

Newcastle's "Scruffy Murphy's" has been converted back into an "English'" style pub and has reverted to its former name of The Old Bull's Head. This restoration comes just three years after Allied installed the fake shamrock, etc.

NEW IN NEWCASTLE

In the Ironmarket, the George and Dragon has had a bit of a face-lift, but is still claiming to be "Probably the most traditional pub in Newcastle". The Bass is excellent, and four pint jugs are available for only £5 (except Friday after 7pm).

The former Holy Inadequate has re-opened after building work as the Full Moon. Most of the murals are intact. Look out for Slater's and Bateman's beers.

Further along Liverpool Road, the Duke of York is now offering guest beers such as Hop Back Summer Lightning, Greene King IPA and, of course, Bass.

Work has started on converting the Guildhall into a Regent Taverns cafe' bar. Already a proposed name "Half Pint at the Guildhall" has caused the good people of Newcastle some anguish!

The Jolly Potters, in Barracks Road, has been taken on by Bernie Mountford of The Vine in Burslem. Good news, Bernie always has a good range of beers available.

KING'S BUSH

Andy (Topsy) Topham, former licensee of the King's Shilling, in Silverdale Road, is now in charge at The Bush, Silverdale. Good news all round, as the King's Shilling still sells Real Ale, and The Bush has the benefit of Andy's expertise.

OLDE MANOR OPEN

It's open at last! Ye Olde Manor Inne situated in Manor Street, Fenton, has opened after a restoration which started last winter! And it's good news - Real Ales including guests, and good food are on offer.

NEW BOWLER

More good news, The Bowler Hat, in Burslem, has been bought by Mike Smith of Ye Olde Smithy, Newcastle, which was Pub of the Month in June/July.

WETHERSPOON'S P.O.

Cheap beer and no music company J.D.Wetherspoon have stated that the are not interested in turning the empty Burslem post office building into a pub. They will, however, be open in Longton post office building by the time you read this.
