UTTOXETER

Most of the pubs once owned by Buntings Uttoxeter Brewery came under the control of Allied Breweries which, in the 1970s, was infamous for its preference for keg beers.

Predictably then, a glance at a twenty year old pub guide reveals just a third of Uttoxeter's pubs selling real ale and the choice limited to only four beers, all from Allied or Bass.

Things have improved considerably since then and a survey during the evening of Thursday 9th December found cask beer in all the town's sixteen pubs, with seventeen different brews on handpump:

BANK HOUSE, Church St.: Charles Wells Bombardier, Marstons Pedigree.

BLACK SWAN, Market St.: Bass.

HOPE & ANCHOR, High St.: Mansfield Cask Ale, Marstons Pedigree.

LIMES, Cheadle Rd.: Banks's Original, Marstons Pedigree.

OLD STAR, Queen St.: Gales Admiral Bitter, Worthington Bitter, Bass.

PLOUGH, Stafford Rd.: Ind Coope Burton Ale, Worthington Bitter, Bass.

ROEBUCK, Dove Bank: Fuller's London Pride, Ruddles County, Theakstons Bitter, Theakstons XB, Courage Directors.

SMITHFIELD, High St.: Burtonwood Bitter & Top Hat, Batemans XXXB.

TALBOT, Market St.: Bass.

THREE TUNS, Cheadle Rd.: Worthington Bitter, Bass.

VAULTS, Market Place: Marstons Pedigree, Worthington Bitter, Bass.

WEAVER LODGE, Holly Rd.: Burtonwood Top Hat.

WELLINGTON, High St.: Bass.

WHEATSHEAF, Bridge St.: Bass.

WHITE HART, Carter St.: Marstons Pedigree, Tetleys Bitter.

WHITE HORSE, Bridge St.: Bass.
