Boca Seniors were the Division 2 champions last year with the two games against the German's resulting in a win for each team, 5 - 2 for the German's in the first game and 3 - 2 for Boca in the second. However, both teams are much changed since last year and all that we both really knew going into the game is that we both needed some result to avoid being left behind in the battle to avoid relegation.
With Mark Richardson missing his first competitive game of the season through injury, Andy Davison, himself returning from injury, played in central defence.
The game started well for the German's as the first 15 minutes saw several useful looking through balls send Simon and Will clean on goal. Will should have done better with his chance when the Boca goalkeeper spread himself well to block Will's shot.
Boca were looking to hit long balls and chase after them, but their best chance came near the end of the first half when a cross ball fell just in front of the Boca striker, who stretched but could only direct it wide of the goal.
Pretty dire stuff and 0 - 0 at half time.
And the second half wasn't much better.
The monster that plays in central defence for Boca was ensuring that none of the German's constant high balls were getting through, and central midfield, Andy Dixon in particular, had the thankless task of competing physically with the strong Boca midfield.
The German's had one real chance when a swinging overhead kick from Nick Park (?) looped over the goalkeeper, but just wide.
Boca were getting more into the game though and had a string of chances to get a winner. A cross to the back post was shot against the outside of the German post, while a header, when Stephen hesitated, only went narrowly wide.
Andy Batchelor came on and was a considerable help in winning the high balls and stemming Boca's attacks. Andy Davison also played well in central defence showing particularly good ball skills with his nose, while yet another Andy, this one Dixon did a considerable amount of work both in midfield and defense.
A point though cannot be scorned as every little bit helps. Unbeaten in 3 games, I feel dizzy.
