Embodying Fire

In order to apply FIRE TACTICS successfully, the warrior should be in a FIRE state of mind.  The Kuji Kiri (mental focusing) process that follows is designed to develop through stimulus-response conditioning a "trigger" for entrance into an FIRE state.  Alternatively, step 1 can be replaced with visualisation of a TIGER (or another animal that embodies the FIRE principle).

1. Imagine your body is raging flame that consumes whatever it contacts.

2. Inhale and exhale quickly without strain or hesitation. (SHORT IN - SHORT OUT).

3. When feelings of energy, enthusiasm and commitment to action are at their strongest, touch your thumbs together with your middle fingers, forming two circles.  Simultaneously say "I am the FIRE."

4. Release your fingers and when ready, slowly rise.

5. Break your state by briskly walking for a few seconds.

6. Test your "anchor" for the Fire state by forming the finger circles once again, as you recite the vow "I am the FIRE."  If it has been successful you will experience feelings of enthusiasm, energy and commitment to action.  If you do not enter the Fire state, recycle to step 1.

When next you are feeling low on energy, indecisive or manipulated by others during sparring (or real combat), and desire to be more "fired up" and in command, fire off your trigger for the FIRE state.

Fire Tactics

Intercepting

The defensive tactic associated with the Fire (Active) Attitude is the Intercepting Hit (Stop Hit and Block Hit).  The Stop Hit is a strike or kick executed as an opponent initiates their attack.  It is fast and disruptive, and needs to be applied explosively to be effective.  Allied to the Stop Hit is the concept of the simultaneous strike, an attack initiated the moment the opponent begins attacking; and the thrust at the eyes of an attacking opponent, designed to make them hesitate so a counter can be successfully initiated.  The Block Hit is a defensive parry that doubles simultaneously as a counter strike.

Blitzing

The offensive tactic associated with the Fire Attitude is the blitz.  To successfully blitz the opponent, the fighter should close the gap quickly and crowd the opponent with their own body, while making frequent small random changes to their techniques, targets and tactics, and attacking relentlessly.  The Fire Fighter aims to attack first and attack fast, without set up, striking and kicking in fast combinations, without giving the opponent time to breath or react.  The attacks should be directed to a variety of Targets or along a range of Trajectories.
