Weapons are frequently divided into categories of sticks, blades, flexibles and projectiles by martial art instructors. In Combat Kungfu, weapons skills are divided more practically into categories based on the commonality of the physical means used to deploy them:
Single-Handed Weapon
Examples include the single escrima stick, short sword or knife;
(See the Knife Fighting Guide for tournament Knife Fencing
provided free on-line).
Two-Handed Weapon
Examples include the sword and staff.
Weapon In Each Hand
Examples include twin sticks, double knives, or short & long swords.
Weapon Changing Hands
The primary example is the nunchaku (hinged staff).
Weapon Leaving Hands
Examples include the throwing spike or blade, and blinding powder or spray.
The black belt will have a working knowledge of weapons from each category, demonstrating an understanding and ability to apply the principles underlying weapons from this area. |
