Chamber Position
For Snap Kicking Techniques
The "chamber position" proceeds the delivery of all lead leg kicks. It is formed by raising the knee of the front leg up to form a barrier between oneself and one's opponent. The shin of the kicking leg should rest along the centreline of your stance. Kicks are snapped out from this position, then returned to it, before the foot is placed down.
There are four ways to generate kicking power:
1. Snapping
Power is achieved by whipping a kick out and back along the same trajectory.
2. Slamming
Power is generated by fully penetrating a target, with complete follow through.
3. Spinning
Power is achieved by turning the body around its central axis.
4. Jumping
Power is achieved by leaping and launching the body into its target.
Based on the possible trajectories, there are five (or six) basic kicks:
Thrust : Front Thrust Kick
The knee is raised and the heel of the foot thrust into a low or midline target.
or
Side Kick
The foot is turned sideways as the sole of the foot impacts a target at any level.
Downward : Axe Kick
The leg is lifted, then the back of the heel is brought down upon a target.
Upward : Front Snap Kick
The instep is brought upward into the groin, or face if opponent is bent over.
Inward : Roundhouse Kick
The knee is raised and the hips turned as the instep is brought around in a circle into a target at any level.
Outward : Hook Kick
The foot is position sideways as the back of the heel is brought into a high line target.
