| Welcome
to yet another issue of the Pain Tolerance column. Main topic today and
on most wrestling fans minds are Great American Bash results. So here’s
my comments on the show.
First
off, I’d just like to thank Eric Bischoff and the WCW booking staff for
degrading another former main event style pay per view title. The Great
American Bash as been around for a decade and then some, and has held some
of the greatest matches in NWA, and even WCW history. But last night, WCW
proved yet again, with the time and effort, they can degrade anything,
as they did last night. I must say WCW was brilliant for bringing in Sid
without ANYONE on the internet reporting it. A lot of names were thrown
such as Shane Douglas, Master P, and even Sable was speculated to show
up by some. Obviously she didn’t since she is still under WWF contract.
Now, Master P, WCW could of had him come in, in a more surprising entrance.
It was as if the WCW gave up on his entrance since it had been reported
all over the internet that he’d be showing up. But even with it being reported,
they could have brought him in, in a more interesting way, instead of having
him have a small confrontation with Curt Hennig over a broken CD?
Ah
well, that’s WCW’s AMAZING booking for you. Also, if the rumor of Hogan
wanting Savage to win the title only to drop it to him at the next pay
per view were true, where does Bischoff stand? Obviously he sided with
Nash’s booking in this one, or are we going to just see Nash lose to Hogan
at the next pay per view? I hope not. Now, with video games becoming more
common then ever, WWF and Acclaim are ready to release the newest, WWF
video game. WWF Attitude. But, later in the year, most likely in the fall,
WCW and EA SPORTS will be releasing the first game of their contract together,
as WCW Mayhem will debut. I myself will be purchasing both games, since
both look to be superb games with all around great in ring performance
as well as a great atmosphere that sets the match and arena’s in real life
perfectly. Although WCW’s game looks to be more entertaining with the ability
to have a backstage brawl in the washrooms, in the backstage area etc.,
they still have to prove themselves, since coming off the crap games put
out by THQ for playstation that were very disappointing.
Taking
a look at the ratings this week, you would have seen WCW blown out of the
water as WWF RAW strolled to another week in their favor with something
like 6.75 to 3.26? It’s amazing how WCW will pull of a decent display of
surprises and story lines at a pay per view, but then just collapse at
a show. Did they really thing have Sable at their show as a guest
was going to bring in ratings? Obviously she is negotiating with WCW already
since she was able to get a front row ticket on short notice? No way, WCW
planted her there.
On
RAW it was great to see Ivory get the title. Now finally we can see some
legit wrestling from an actual women’s wrestler and not just T&A in
the ring trying to pump up the crowd. It was good while it lasted but it’s
time the WWF put some wrestling back in the division. It will be interesting
to see if the WWF will just try to make a division out of the women they
have, or will they actually put in an effort and bring in roughly four
or five new ladies to boost up the division.
Now
onto the poll, there were too many e-mails to choose to post from regarding
last week’s poll about who you would choose as the new WWF champion. But
I will tell you, Chyna beat out every other woman with a leading 15 votes.
Following closely behind was Tori with 7 votes, so as you can see Chyna
dominated. All the other woman had lower then 5 votes each.
This
week’s poll is: If you had the chance to run WCW for a day. Name three
wrestlers you would fire. The past few polls I haven’t given my choice
but next week I will. Send your replies to [email protected] THANKS! |
