| Welcome
to another edition of Pain Tolerance. This week's column will focus
on yet again the lawsuits of the WWF, Sable, the King of the Ring,
and the young vs. old angle that WCW is developing.
First
off, why would a host of a television show in Kuwait sue the WWF? The reason
is simple. He was roughed up by Vader. But, why would he sue the WWF all
of a sudden? That's simple in my opinion. Simply because of the recent
negative publicity the WWF has been getting, first with the death of Owen
Hart, followed by the Wrongful Death lawsuit that the Hart family put forth
a few days ago, second with Sable suing for $110+ million dollars and now
this. These mental cases that write for the well known papers throughout
the US, are simply making themselves look foolish. As a wrestling fan,
do you really care if the WWF is being sued by a little reporter in Kuwait,
nope, do the wrestling fans care for Sable? Not really, just take a look
at the ratings, her appearance didn't help out as much as Bischoff hoped
it would, nor did Sid's. With WCW pulling off that lame attempt to get
ratings with Sable in the front row, probably just screwed Sable out of
any money that was coming to her. Now, I took a poll last week it was "If
you were WCW president, who would you fire..." The response was overwhelming
and I would like to thank everyone who sent in a opinion. But, I must say,
it was if everyone who voted, met in a room and choose two main guys to
get rid of. Apparently you, the readers want Konnan and Ernest Miller out
of there as quickly as possible. I agree partially with Konnan, but not
with the Cat. He's a decent worker in the ring, and does get a lot of air
time, but you have to admit he does get a lot of heat. Konnan, well he's
starting to slack off a bit, but he can still work a crowd, even though
he's been doing the same two lines for over a year or so now. I'd keep
him. The three guys I’d can would have to be, Lenny Lane, Barry Windham
and Vincent Lane is just not being used right, the WCW could push this
guy in the Cruiser Weight division, but are just holding him off. Windham,
what has this guy done? Nothing. He’s just there to be apart of the Country
Vs. Rap angle, but ain’t worth the money. Curt Hennig could carry that
angle on his own, but since they got Rey and Konnan, I can see Duncum Jr.
sticking around. Now Vincent. Is he actually on contract or is he paid
per appearance? Because of the WCW and Bischoff are actually stupid enough
to time up an investment in this guy they are truly dunce. He’s just a
valet for the dying nWo, and even at that he doesn’t help much. Having
him interfere somehow in every Stevie Ray match-up won’t help Steve Ray
get over as a big man. Here’s a new section that will be added in Pain
Tolerance every week, my high spot, and low spot of pro wrestling every
week. My low spot was watching Master P getting paid a fair sum from the
Turner bank, to get the crowd behind him, when really not one cheer nor
boo could be heard. Was it where the event was hosted, that the people
don’t listen to Rap, or was it they just could care less. Through the minute
and a half of mic time he got at DJ Ran’s booth, he said "Hooty Hoo" probably
10 times. Way to go WCW! Now for the high spot of my week, while watching
pro wrestling would have to be seeing Chyna kick some ass on Heat just
last night. At first I didn’t agree with her mauling over the young talent
in WWF, (Val Venis, two weeks ago), but now with the Triple H interference
from the outside, this could get interesting. It would be pretty cool to
see the first Queen of the Ring crowned at this Sunday’s King of the Ring.
Maybe the WWF could have Bass come out and nail Chyna from behind setting
up there feud like they did in 1993 when Bret Hart was pronounced king
of the ring ’93 and Jerry Lawler coming from behind stating he was the
true king of the squared circle.
While
on the subject of King of the Ring. I’m going to give a prediction. I’m
actually hoping Chyna will win, but if she’s out then I’d look for Badd
Ass Billy Gunn to walk away as King Ass. Everyone is saying that the Ladder
match is going to suck totally, but wasn’t that the same statement made
before St. Valentine’s Massacre where Vince took one of the best bumps
in a while, as well as one of the best cage matches in a while, (taking
nothing away from Mick Foley’s performance at KOTR ’98.) Also, Shane McMahon
is not the best wrestler around but give credit where credit is due, he
did put on a decent showing at WrestleMania 15 against X-Pac in the European
Championship Match. I’m hoping we get to see a Hardy Boys Vs. Brood match
at the pay-per-view. Even if Edge is unable to make it, put Christian in
to replace him, Christian and either Hardy Boy could work well together
since Christian is smaller and more agile.
Now
finally on to the WCW latest plan to win back ratings. The one that the
fans have been looking forward to for sometime. Where the young talent
confront the oldies. The match on Nitro was great, it was nice to see Flair
get cleanly pinned by Bagwell, except I would have preferred it to be one
of the other young guys. Speaking of which, when you think of it, it’s
really not Old Vs. New, since Kanyon is aligned with the Old squad. And
vice versa. Wouldn’t you prefer to see Benoit lead the young guys, it would
have been better to have him cleanly pin Flair, but I guess the WCW wants
Bagwell to lead, or was there another purpose. Did WCW actually book ahead?
Maybe so. Since there are rumors of Shane Douglas, The Franchise showing
up on Nitro tonight. Could we possibly see the rumors become fact as Malenko,
Benoit and Douglas combine to make the Triple Threat? I seriously hope
so. Also, just another thing is, what is up with the young guys squad,
there was a rumor of them being called "Dirty Animals"? Hrmmm, don’t sound
too good.
Well,
that’s it for the column, now for this week’s poll. "If you could start
all over with King of the ring. Who would your final four be in the KOTR
tourney?" Pick anyone in the WWF. Send your choices to [email protected]
