Hi everyone, Here I am in very sunny Stockholm - so sunny that I spent some time at a local pool, and was quite sunburnt on Monday!
My apartment is small but very nice...just enough room to fit mum and dad on the floor when they come to visit, and in a really nice part of Stockholm called Gardet.
I walked around for about six hours on Monday so I'm now quite good at finding my way home from all possible angles, and I had my first Swedish beer last night...well more like afternoon really but it is 'summer hours' so the office closes at 4pm, and played six degrees of separation with my colleague Mikaela's Aussie boyfriend who's close friend George works with Renay. The beers aren't toooo expensive, although $8 for a shandy is pushing it.
I don't have a tv or a phone yet so I'm listening to Swedish radio in the evening - the only station that can play Air Supply, Michael Bolton, Roxette and Randy Crawford in the one set.
I have taken some photos so I'll post them soon and write a better update from plane - red wine and sleeping pills - to now.
And James...I am going to the ABBA Tribute concert in two weeks!!!

Stockholm, Sweden
(Yvette Farrell)
Start spreading the news, I'm leaving today
Im gonna be a part of it - Stockholm, Sweden
From Sutherland Shire, via Surry Hills
And then on Thai Airways to Stockholm, Sweden
Im gonna wake up in a city that doesn't sleep
Because for half of the year, the sun never sets.
Ill work so hard, from 10 until 2
And then Ill hit the nightspots of Stockholm Sweden.
Give me a microphone, and Ill sing some songs
At the karaoke bar in Stockholm, Sweden,
Stockholm, Sweden.

Im gonna wake up in a city, that never sleeps
Except for the half of the year when its pitch black.
And I'll be number one, head of the list,
Cream of the crop at the top of the heap.

From Sutherland Shire, via Surry Hills
I'm gonna make a brand new start of it - in old Stockholm
If I can make it there, I'm gonna make it anywhere
It's up to you - Stockholm, Sweden

Thanks to James for setting up this on-line diary type site for me. I'm off to Stockholm in just under two weeks and feeling quite nervous about the whole thing, particularly the cold cold weather that's approaching, and finding my way around a new city without any knowledge of Swedish. But English is very much a second language so I'm sure I'll be okay. I'm there for six months and then home at the end of February after a month in Thailand mountain biking around Chang Mai...anyway I'll write about all my adventures here - I'm anticipating I'll have at least a few...

Photographs From Yvette's Farewell (courtesy/commentary by James)
As you may have guessed from this photograph it was a karaoke evening... at not one, but two karaoke bars.
But not only was there karaoke, there was also limbo.
And there was a male stripper.
And for some reason, Matt, who said he couldn't sing, managed to get a large crowd of people to sit on the dance floor as he told a particularly lame joke.
Thank goodness we could dance though... as you can see in this lovely pic of Katie, Yvette and Jackie on the dance floor... Murder On The Dancefloor... do do...doof, doof.
After several hours of dancing, we headed off to another karaoke bar.
A bar where we were the only people who sang in English, but where Yvette and Rene proved "Dancing Queen" had the ability to speak all languages.
After that it was the Hollywood Hotel, Bar Cleveland and the.... home to bed!
