The Evangelion Units

Evangelions, artificial humanoid fighting machines used to combat the Angels. These evangelions are similar to the Angels in that they too have the A.T. Field although it is a bit weaker than some of the Angels. What differentiates the evangelions from the angels is that they don't have the s2 organ which supplies the Angels with an unlimited supply of energy. The evas run on electrical power provided by the Umbilical Cable. If this cable is cut, the unit can run for up to five minutes or up to one minute with maximum gain (or at full power).

Although they look like robots, they ARE NOT robots. They are of organic materials (they have bones, skin, organs, nails...) with some mechanical parts. In order for them to run, they need to synchronize with pilots who are contained in the entry plug which is inserted into the backbone of the evas. This entry plug is filled with LCL liquid which makes synchronization easier. What the pilot thinks to do the eva will do it, the draw back is: whatever damage is inflicted on the unit, it is also inflicted on the pilot as well.

Eva-Unit00. The Prototype model. Designated pilot, Rei Ayanami. This unit has one eye located on top of its head. Was bright orange in color and didn't have the shoulder blades. Was severely damaged during its first battle in Tokyo-3 and was repaired. Made a return performance in episode 11 when all three eva units made a first joint operation in defeating an Angel invader. Upgraded to test type. The new unit00 now has the shoulder blades and is bright blue in color.

Eva-Unit01. The Test Type. Shinji Ikari is its designated pilot. The most advanced among the eva units. Has the two-eye configuration. Purple and neon green color configuration. Has the ability to restart even after total power shutdown. Commander Ikari gives great importance to this unit and will sacrifice even the other units except Unit01. Yui's soul was trapped within the unit when she tried to synchronize with it. This explains why the unit restarts everytime Shinji's life's in danger.

Eva-Unit02. The Mass-production model. Compared to Unit01, it has a more basic set-up. Has the four-eye configuration, bright red in color. Based in Germany but brought to Nerv HQ in Japan during which it had an encounter with an angel while at sea. First Eva-unit to fight underwater. Designated pilot: Asuka Langley Soryu. She sees it as the best evangelion around.
