FADING SUNS
|
The time is the future. Humanity has spread to numerous planets in space.
Those planets were terraformed, their alien inhabitants were turned servitors of humanity.
All was well for a while during the time of the Republic but now things are not so well...
The Republic has fallen, new alien races more powerful than humans were found in space,
barbariens from worlds long cut off from civilization return to claim their birth right,
dark things (some might call them demons) from the beggining of time are making a comeback,
but worst of all is the loss of light and the life it gives due to the... FADING SUNS.
But not all is bleak. The vast majority of mankind stands united behind one strong emperor.
People are slowly trying to rebuild and rediscover the wonders that existed during the time of the Republic.
Into this world the PC's come in. Possible character roles include : nobles, priests, guild members,
aliens, barbarins and more. Psychic powers & Magic are not uncommon.
Pros : Very nice game setting & background work. You can feel the bleak yet somewhat hopeful atmosphere
just by reading the rules book.
Cons : I didn't like the game system very much, for it allows very small chances of sucsess even in those things
characters should be good at. Many important details were left out of the book, small but crucial things such as
basic spaceship technical layout (how the heck do these things work & more importantly how do they fight).
Character creation system is somewhat warped making it difficult to create a well rounded character.

AD&D 2nd EDITION
|
If you don't know this game that means you are either not a roleplayer
or you are just very young.
The setting is general fantasy, and players take the roles of four
stereotypes : Warrior, Wizard, Priest, Rogue. Characters are either human or humanoid.
This game makes use of many kinds of dice (not just d6).
Pros : This is THE GAME. not because it's so good but because it was there first and you
actually feel the fantasy when you play it.
Cons : The rules are simplistic & unrealistic, the game is very triumph oriented, multiple
supplaments are requiered to play, and it is old (but hey, it's a classic).

SHADOWRUN

Mix cyberpunk & fantasy and this is what you get.
In the future vast corporations rule the tech&magic rich
world. Whenever they need something done outside the confines
of the law (which happens often), they call in the PC's.
Pros : Nobody thought of this idea for roleplaying before.
Cons : If fantasy & cyberpunk were meant to be mixed somebody
would have thought of it before. As always I disliked the rules
system. Why can't you people get it through your thick skulls:
Simple yet elegent game systems are the best and they are not
that hard to think of.
Wary gamers : Stay away from this game.
