ROLE PLAYING GAMES REVIEW 3
IN NOMINE
Imagine a high stakes poker games. Now increase those stakes.
Now double them. Triple them. Again. And that's still small potatoes
compared with "In Nomine" because the pot here includes
the world and the souls of everyone on it. Heaven & Hell wage their
unending war and the players are it's soldiers. Be they angels or demons
they all serve demanding (very demanding) Supiriors whose nature
dictates their agendas, their powers and politics.
The game system uses 6 sided dice.
Pro's : A truely unique game. Should be fun. Thought provoking and
stimulating. Gives one a chnce to delve into human nature.
Con's : This game is very complicated. If you want to keep up with
events occuring in the game world many supplaments need to be purchased.

TOON
It's party time!!!
Ever watch cartoons? Well?
Ever want to play a cartoon character? Now is your chance.
This crazy, loony game takes you into the exciting
world of cartoons where you can't die (ever see a cartoon character
die? Roger Rabbit films excluded) you just "fall down" for 3 minutes.
Character creation : you can play anything you like (as long as your GM
doesn't disapprove).
Characters have 4 traits : Muscle (strength), Zip (agility), Smarts (brains), Chutzpah (pushiness).
There are also lots of skills derived from these attributes and shticks : powers, tricks, magic, whatever.
The rules of the game are cartoonish in the extreme and include :
Boggling, illogical logic, plot points and of course the GM is known as "the animator".
Pro's : This game is FUN. The rule book itself is very funny and so should the game be.
The simplcity of the rules helps the game move along.
Con's : This is a game of intense action and excitement. People with a heart condition should steer clear
of it.

GAMMA WORLD (4th EDITION)
Setting : Post-apocalyptic earth.
In the year 2200 humans seemed to have managed what they have been trying for centuries :
They brought earth to the brink of destruction and nearly exterminated the human species
(certainly changed it irrevocably).
Due to extreme amounts of radiation left over many humans mutated in various wonderous and horrible ways.
These are the altered humans. Those who remained unchanged are calles pure strain humans.
However, humans were not the only ones altered by the radiation : animals and even plants mutated and became sentient
(plants also gained mobility).
So, if you ever wanted to play a talking elephant or a seductive venus-trap this is the game for you.
A new world is trying to rise out of the ashes : most of the tech of the future is lost and trying to recover whatever
is possible is crucial. (most of gamma world is stuck with Renaissance age tech).
In addition to deciding your "race" there are 4 character classes:
Enforcer (warrior), Esper (psychic), Examiner ("scientist?") and scout (ranger).
This weird world has also espoused many bizarre organizations such as the Knights of genetic purity ("pure" humans bent on
the destruction of their altered brethren), the Radioactivists (believe radiation to be holy and expose themselves to it
regularly - thereby gaining more mutations), The Restorationists (working to recover ancient technology and restore the
world to it's former glory) and many more.
Pros : This game is certainly imaginative, and very unique. Enjoyable for one/two game sessions.
Cons : The combat system is ad&d's in reverse (which is actually less confusing but still simplictic).
Character skill attributes will be very low so don't expect things to work out in that department.
The game takes reality and throws it out the window - for example extenseve exposure to radiation will make you very dead
very fast but you will not suddenly grow wings/horns or turn into a telepath!!!
