Cabinet design

The original Puppy is much easier to replicate than the Watt. It is essentially a moderatlyy simple MDF Box with internal bracing. Later Versions introduced multiple chambers and used laminates with a higher stiffness as material. Still, with the X-Over Frequency at 150Hz the degree of damping and rigidity required for the Box are not as rigerous as for the Watt.

Furthermore, the design as a simple rectangular box makes the assembly pretty simple and self-explanatory. The following panels are needed for a pair:

(Partsizes for 18mm MDF:)

  • Sides: 574mm X 420mm (4Pcs)
  • Front/Rear: 574mm X 257mm (8Pcs)
  • Top/Bottom: 420mm X 292mm (4Pcs)
  • large Braces: 257mm X 257mm (4Pcs - Plywood preferred)
  • small Braces: 333mm X 60mm (6Pcs - Plywood preferred)

Again, the drawings show the technique of construction quite well. Front and rear panels where laminated first, and then combined with the rest of the box. Other details mirror that of the small Satellite Box.

The Space behind the Woofers is filled with Dacron Fill. The walls again are damped with Bitumen Pads. The Port is of 75mm inner diameter and about 200mm long.
