Mortal Library
As you look through the shelves, you find many leatherbound classics, including some that seem to be the original manuscripts. Brahm Stokers Dracula, Frankenstien, Treasure Island, Poes works, all are here. You could spend a lifetime just reading the books in this one area. Then you get into the mythology section. Here you find books on the mythology of Wales, Ireland, England, Egypt, Greece, Germany, Norse, everything you can imagine, every land is covered, every religion. Even the Bible is here in this section. Theres also an extensive collection of Vampyre myths. Surprisingly, theres also a collection of roleplay materials, Dungeons and Dragons, Paranoia, StarWars, ShadowRealm, Vampire: The Masquerade; are just a few of the games included here.
In the text on Vampires you pick up, there are many myths, but they seem to have the same basic principles: Vampires can take the form of bats, rats, wolves, or even mist. Vampires cannot bear sunlight and will burn if it touches them. Vampires can be killed by driving a wooden stake through there hearts (some specify Rosewood), or by cutting off their heads. Vampires can be driven back or harmed by crosses, Holy Water, Sacred wafers, and the Lords Prayer if the person weilding them believes in the faith. Vampires have no reflection and cant be caught on film. Vampires cant cross running water. Vampires when in their true form are ugly demonic beasts, with red glowing eyes, clawed hands, and clammy pale skin. Just about every land has a Vampire Myth of some sort, though they vary in form and sometimes in ability.
The books also give some possible causes for Vampire myth, including: misunderstanding of the process of decompostion
Xeroderma pigmentosum: pigment condition in which the victim cant be in the sunlight or they burn and get cancer.
Catalepsy: a disorder of the nervous system that causes a form of suspended animation. It causes a loss of voluntary motion, a rigidity to the muscles, as well as decreased sensitivity to pain and heat. A person suffering from catalepsy can see and hear but cannot move. Their breathing, pulse, and other regulatory functions are slowed to the extent that to an untrained eye, it would seem as though they were deceased.
Porphyria: a disease withthe following symptoms: Extreme sensitivity to sunlight Sores and scars that break open and will not heal properly Excessive hair growth Tightening of skin around lips and gums (which would make the incisors more prominent)
Roleplay: What is roleplay? Its the art of acting, done for fun instead of profit, and without a script. Roleplay is addictive, sometimes nervewracking when rules discussions come into play, and for the most part, thoroughly enjoyable. There are many types of games, everything from Superheros to Vampires, from Dragons to Elfquest. And each has its own rules systems. What game is THIS page associated with? Vampire the Masquerade, and the other White Wolf gaming systems. This is a library primarily built for the Tremere Clan, a group of Vampire Warlocks, though we have included things that would concern other Kindred (Vampires) and perhaps even non-roleplayers and Mortal players. Were not going to include a comprehensive rules guide here, if you are looking for that check out the offical WW website, or your local bookstore for a rules book. But you will be able to get some idea about the game from this site, and more from the links that will be included here.
