ITALIAN CARMAGEDDON 3DFX PROBLEMS?

If you are using the Italian Carmageddon and are having problems GOOD NEWS... here's what Jon Vincent of www.carmageddon has to say:

"Some people running the Italy version of Carmageddon were having problems with the Blood Patchs. So, once again, Carmageddon.com brings you a "newer" version of the blood patch, just for the Italian version!

Note: This patch is only tested for the Italian version is not suggested to be used with other version of Carmageddon."

3DFXGL NEW ALPHA OPENGL DRIVER .. GLQUAKEWORLD SPEEDIER?

Thanks to Dave (Alchy) for sending me this snippets regarding 3DFX's 3DFXGL driver (see 3DFX's site developers section for more info):

GL Quake/World Flies
Jack 'Morbid' Mathews has done something I think all GL Quakers will appreciate. He's figured out a way to half the texture size, thus decreasing memory thrashing, therefore making for MUCH less lag in net play, especially in heavy combat. The GL console is also somewhat transparent now. It's all Jack's fault that my Quakecon review isn't up. He made me verify this, yeah, that's it. ;) Mysterious forces made me go to the grocery store too so I wouldn't go broke eating out, like I have been doing for almost 2 weeks.

Glide 2.4 Released
Glide v2.4 for 3dfx Voodoo Graphics cards (Rush versions will be here shortly) has been realeased. Download g24rtvg.exe (1543k) from Stomped. You'll definitely want to get it from here because it took me 50 minutes to get it over ISDN and others are having the same slowness. This works in Windows NT and 95. The good news is that the GL Quake Alt-Tab problem has been fixed. Also, there is a FULL OpenGL driver ALPHA (means way early development without features and has bugs). Download 3dfxgl.exe (367k - Glide 2.3 or higher required). You can also get it from the Glide Download Page if you dare. Other cool news is they say there will be a Linux glide available 'shortly!'

TOMB RAIDER 2 - CURVE UPDATE

Er... this is of no interest to anyone at all I know, but apparently Lara's breasts in Tomb Raider II have had a slight digital cosmetic surgery operation and are now more rounded ;). Apparently her brain has been removed too but that's just a rumour.

DMANs LARGE BANDWIDTH ooo-er

Oh-oh my bandwidth on Demon is rising :( have to think of a way to move some pages. If you see a decrease in speed it's because they dumped me on another server for highbandwith users :(. I may just move some pages elsewhere.
Anyone out there want to give me a location to run from or how about some advertising?
Nooo must resist... the advertising..
Noo.... I will be assimilated.

Shelley of 3DFX mentioned that soon they will have a new T1 installed to help with the slow downloading of 3DFX's web site pages. That should help things for us European countries trying to get those pesky large image maps downloaded from http://www.3dfx.com

iF22 and iA10

Here is an interesting snippet regarding iF22 and iA10 posted by Ekiz:
There is some info in an article at PCME about these goodies. Well, they talk about the terrain, and in the upcoming iA-10 they have a new
engine that they say will give you the same detail at 500ft as iF22 does at 30k feet.

MERCS 3DFX WORKING?

Makull posted this regarding the Mercs 3DFX patch and how to get it working. "YES! It's true!! You have to have the d3d upgrade, the 1.05 patch and this file :

http://www.best.com/~asaddi/105prjpat.zip   16/07/97 UPDATE: LINK BROKEN! ACTIVISION HAVE RELEASED MORE NEW VERSIONS OF THE PATCH TRY THOSE FIRST. (thanks to David Thomspson for reporting the link error)
"Instructions on how to install it are in the zip file.. Basically what it does is patching the project file to the CD version 1.05 file... WORKS FANTASTIC!!! The file is made by Allan T. Saddi, THANKS!!!!"
"I also noticed that if you change the res. to 640x480 (standard is 512 x something) I get an 10fps increase... weird... but mercs is smooth as hell now.... (P200)"
"Oh yeah, the file is 1.7MB..."
"Have fun,"

Makull.

VISPATCH

Christopher Bolin posted some info regarding VISPATCH for GLQUAKE. Basically they have pre-vised many Quake levels and then stored the new changed data only. This data can be patched into your GLQUAKE levels to give you transparent water with high frame rate in most levels. The beauty of it is you don't need to download masses of data just reasonable sized zips (around 1MB each for the complete sets of levels in normal Quake, the deathmatch levels, hipnotic etc). To quote him:
"We have patches for: All the registered Quake levels, Mission Pack #1, CTF 3&4, Shrak, Cenotaph of the Magi, Dimensionality, DeathMatch eXtreme, and various other popular DM maps."
Go get it from http://razor.stomped.com/water/

LUCAS ARTS & 3DFX

Craig Thorpe posted this in the 3dfx newsgroups regarding an interview with Jack Sorenson, who is apparently the president of Lucas Arts:

PCZone: So what do you think about 3D accelerator cards ?

Jack: X-wing Vs Tie and jedi will support the majors. The 3DFX version of X vs Tie is awesome, It almost looks like the movie. The 3DFX is as good as the Nintendo 64, but there are too many horrible 3D cards out there which are getting bundled with new machines.

SCITECH TO RELEASE OPENGL DRIVERS

Taken from Voodoo Extreme this is a quote from SciTech regarding forthcoming FULL OpenGL drivers for all 3D cards. Voodoo will have the first native driver:

Welcome to the SciTech Software MGL Public Beta Directory! In here you will find the public beta release of our new MGL 3.1 graphics library. The MGL 3.1 provides support for fullscreen OpenGL rendering using Microsoft OpenGL, SGI Cosmo OpenGL and Mesa (a freeware OpenGL implementation). The MGL 3.1 can also utilize hardware acceleration via regular Microsoft OpenGL ICD/MCD drivers for Windows 95 and Windows NT in both windowed modes and fullscreen modes.

** COMING SOON! **
The first native hardware OpenGL driver will be available soon for the 3Dfx Voodoo cards. This native driver provides full hardware OpenGL acceleration for Voodoo based boards in fullscreen modes. Watch this space for more information on 3Dfx hardware support and hardware support from other vendors.

FIX FOR BLACK SCREEN PROBLEM WITH SOME GAMES (e.g. I76)

If you have any 3DFX games crash to a black screen when the game is started and you have a Stealth 3D 2000 try turning off acceleration:

Right click on My Computer, go to Properties, select Performance tab, select Graphics option, move the slider to the left to no hardware acceleration, select OK and restart the computer.
Now you will no longer get the black screen. Your 2D will run a little slower and if you have a Stealth 3D then you will lose the left and right mouse desktop options, but it's easy enough to set it back after playing D3D version of i76.

ULTIM@TE RACE -3DFX

The flagship game for PowerVR is running on the 3DFX. Now is there is any reason to get a PowerVR?

"I'll confirm it :) I've seen Ultim@te Race running on Voodoo Graphics and it's pretty awesome.
Kalisto has been supporting us for quite some time but were obligated to Videologic not to mention it."

Brian P. Bruning
3Dfx Interactive Developer Relations Manager

On another note Brian also dropped a few hints about forthcoming RPGs such as Elder Scrolls, Ultima 9 (not on-line), Wizardry 8, Kings Quest 8. (Plus there's EverQuest and Lands of Lore 2 :) with 3DFX).
