There are TWO SHIPS in the picture. I was standing on the flight deck of the USS Mobile Bay when I took this shot. I don't recall the name of the ship on the left. We were moored to the pier in the Persian Gulf, I forget whether it was in Oman or the United Arab Emirates. It is common practice to moor ships alongside one another with gangplanks connecting them. In this case, the boatswain's mates *forgot* to throw out the "bumpers" that keep the ships apart before putting tension to the lines. It's not often one hears the collision alarm go off on a ship, much less on a ship in port.
