The Music of The X-Files | Achinoam
Nini (Noa) | RENT | Local Radio
I think that the music from the X-Files is fascinating in and of itself. Warner Brothers has released two albums of it:
Songs in the Key of X: Music from and Inspired by The X-Files
These are all songs that were in XF episodes or that might be in an episode. Most of them are by alternative artists like Shery Crow, The Foo Fighters, and Danzig. Overall, I really liked this album, but one track, Star Me Kitten by REM with William S Burroughs, just irritates the hell out of me. I like all the rest of the tracks, especially If You Never Say Goodbye, by PM Dawn.
The Truth and the Light
All the tracks on this one are from the original scores, and all are by Mark Snow. This is not an album you want to be listening to while reading a scary book. Like the show, it's freaky, sometimes funny and always excellent.

Noa is a New-York born Israli singer. She is immensly popular in Israel and has released two albums in America, Noa and Calling. These are hard to find, but well worth the search. I got Noa at her concert in Muskegon, and Calling at Schuler's Books and Music in Grand Rapids. Don't bother the nice folks at your local Camelot, they don't have either of them. I've checked in three states.
It's hard to describe Noa's style. The rythms and melodies are clearly influenced by her Hebrew-Yemenite roots, but the lyrics and the feel of the music are entirely American. Anyone who can hold an auditorium full of junior and senior high students spell bound for two hours and get a standing ovation at the end has to have at least a bit of talent, and she has in abubdance. (whew!run-on sentance!)
I have a whole two Noa-related links (her following in Israel is strong, but she has yet to catch on in America.):
For an offical album site, this one isn't too shabby. It has a bio, sound clips, tour dates, and pictures.
Not much info, but a couple of nice pictures and you can order her earlier Hebrew albums here.

If you haven't heard of Rent, you've probably been living in a hole with no television. The media blitz that followed the show's opening continues unababted. I haven't yet had the chance to see the show, but the soundtrack occupies an honored place in my CD collection. This is soem of the best music I've heard in a long time. Funny, bright, sad and moving in turn, it's an excellent example of Broadway at its' best.
!!!!!!NEWS FLASH!!!!!!
Giles Chiasson, who played Steve and others in the New York cast, will be starring in Cherry County Playhouse's production of Chess this summer at the Frauenthal Theatre in Muskegon, MI.
Check out these sites for more information than I could possibly provide:
A good page, but it requires Shockwave. The opening sound clip played fine, but I couldn't get the soundtrack thingie to work, so I just shoved the CD in. Cast info, pic and bios, as well as tour dates.
Nice, not very graphics heavy page. Mostly the same stuff as the official site
Home of the Rent Webring, as well as cast info.

Muskegon isn't exactly a musical Mecca, but there are a few decent radio stations:
Good station, sucky site. One word: frames. Blech. The station plays mostly Top 40, with some 80's mixed in to make things interesting. They tend to play lots of smarmy ballads.
170.9 Z108
Plays what WSNX used to play, a pretty even mix of the older stuff and Top 40.
Grand Rapids alternative station that won't come in on my puny stereo. This one has the best morning show I've heard, and it's well know for featuring local bands.
