Although the magnificent Dodge Custom 880 Models used a
1962 Chrysler body, enough trim and panel alterations were
made on the 1963 models to make them truly individual cars,
perhaps the most beautiful of the Custom 880's was the Model
515 convertible. This attractive car sold for $3,251 and
weighed 3,770 pounds. The attractive frontal ensemble was all
new for 1963 while the rear end of the car was reworked from
last year. |
T'he relative success of the Custom 880 Series of large luxury
Dodges introduced last year to fill a gap left by the death of the
DeSoto prompted Dodge to offer the 880 Models in two
sub-series lines for 1963. The lowest priced of these large
Dodges was the 880 4-door sedan, Model 503. This car cost
$2,813 and rode on the long and luxurious 122-inch wheelbase.
All 880 Models, whether designated Custom or straight 880's
were powered by a large V-8 engine. In the standard 880
Models this motor was the 361 cubic inch V-8 that developed
265 horsepower at 4400 RPM. |
King of the 1963 Dodge offerings was the Custom 880 Series
of five different body styles. These cars rode on the122-inch
wheelbase, used a 1962 Chrysler body, and were powered by
a 361 cubic inch 265 horsepower V-8 as standard equipment.
They were optionally available with a large 383 cubic inch V-8
that put out 305 horsepower at 4600 RPM. The magnificent
Custom 880 4-door hardtop, Model 514, sold for $3,109 and
weighed 3,745 pounds.

The standard 880 station wagon was offered in both 9 and
6-passenger versions. These lower priced 880 wagons were
sedan type styling and continued to borrow liberally from the
Chrysler with which they shared their bodies. The 880
9-passenger wagon sold for $3,257 while the two seat version
seating six passengers, went for $3,142.

T'he classy Model 512 was the Dodge Custom 880 2-door
hardtop. It was the most expensive 2-door hardtop in the vast
1963 Dodge line. Selling for $3,030, this car weighed 3,705
pounds. |
