Originating in 1909 in the United States, Championship Car racing is the world's most difficult automobile championship, pushing the drivers and the cars to their absolute limit on a diverse series of race tracks.

Governed by the Championship Auto Racing Teams(CART), the World Championship visits 20 races in 4 continents and 5 countries. The formula cars in the championship use turbo charged V8 engines. Racing is conducted on road and oval race tracks.

History

The Championship dates back to 1916 and includes a wealth of history and champions. Most people are only familiar with the recent Champions since CART became the governing body in 1979. The glorious history and its champions need more recognition, and here you can find out all about the past.

Click here for The Champions of the World Championship, including the list of all the champions since 1916. In addition, find out the similarities between the 1st World Champion, Dario Resta, and the 75th World Champion, Alessandro Zanardi.
