PolishBorder We left our place the next morning and crossed the Border after a short stop at an Tobacco shop to buy an huge amount of Dutch Tobacco which is unavailing in the eastern Countries. Currently germans do not need a Visa but a Passport to cross the Polish border. Unfortunately one Passport was expired, so the comrade got an temporarily ID Paper from the german Borderpolice - this procedure took it's time and smoking at the border station was forbidden.

After changing Money we took off - CreditCards are not very common in all eastern Countries. Visa and MasterCards are accepted in all Countries we crossed, but buying fuel with them could be a hard test for your bikes fuel reserve. It is slightly better in Poland, Hungarian and Czech Republic. Buying Money with CreditCard at a Bank is very expensive so it's better to make sure to have enough cash with. Basically it is possible to pay with foreign money, but especially on the countryside it is necessary to ask for the exchange rate given before filling in fuel. The Slovaki People are a little peculiar in this case, maybe a result of their very young independence from foreign Powers like the Polish, Austrians, Germans, Russians and last Czech. I have had serious troubles to pay with german currency there (but never tried US $). If you're proud owner of german EC-Card life could be easy if you're at the right place. I know there are some CashPoints in Poland, Hungarian, Czech and - yes it is true - Romania. I used the Terminals in Zakopane PL and Brasov (Kronstadt) RO.
