This will be the page to find out about the best bands, TV and films available. Maybe gigs if I can get enough info. Send all reviews, thoughts and info (dates, goss, etc.) to the usual address. This is going to be very much UK-biased as FortuneCity is UK based. (As far as I know. OK, so I am.) But the Internet is a big place and I would love to get reviews from other countries if you think they would be interesting. Especially Americans who get to see all the cool films much earlier than us Brits. Along with the films and bands there may be a list of web sites. Who knows? Keep those contributions coming thick and fast.

Jobs up for grabs (-groan, again?) yes sorry for all this but we need reviewers of albums, singles, and films. It doesn't have to be regular (as long as we get enough)

***If any of these is really successful it may get it's own, regular, page***

Television

I don't know what will go here-possibly thoughts on new series on terrestrial (not satellite) television, Internet related TV programs. Send in reviews. Maybe a bit of soap info if I can find it. All ideas considered.

Cinema / Video

This section of the paper is for film news and reviews. Keep 'em coming. Anything you've seen recently.

LOST WORLD The sequel to Jurrasic Park has been released in the UK and it is an improvement on the original. Although the novelty value of the dinosaurs has worn off slightly from the first film, improved special effects and action sequences continue the suspense from beginning to end.
RECOMMENDED   www.lost-world.com
MEN IN BLACK Don't put this film down as a sequel to Independence Day - the two are totally seperate. Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith play the mythical MiB's and fantastic special effects combine with a very funny script to make a great film.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED   meninblack.com

EVENT HORIZON OK, I admit I had been working hard and not had much sleep when I went to see Event Horizon at the cinema but there is no excuse for a film which lets you fall asleep at the beginning. It was very slow moving at the start, suddenly jumping into a blood and guts special at the end. I wouldn't normally complain but it was over the top and unrealistic. It seemed as if the majority of the film was blue to compliment the explosions.
Some nice scenes (the airlock) but overall..
DON'T BOTHER

Foo Fighters Concert Review

Foo Fighters w/ special guests Talk Show - The Ritz - Raleigh, NC anymore, the doors were open. I had watched Pete walk around all day, but he always looked too busy. So one time, he walkspast me and I say to him, "Hey Pete! You busy?"

"Yeah" he says, and it sounded EXACTLY like theway he starts off the Wool song Coalinga, with his "yeah, yeah!"s. Itwas pretty funny. But he was cool enough to sign my Scream shirt, and Brandons Wool cd. A few minutes later, there was Franz near the bus and we approached him, and he signed next to his bro's name on the back of my shirt.

Cool. So we hung out there just a few more mintues, hoping to catch the Stahl's come back becausewe saw them rideaway. We never saw anymore foo's, but we did see one of the DeLeo bros from Talk Show,
the bass player. He was pretty nice. I've never been a huge STP fan, but I complimented him on his writing skills because I've tried playing their stuff on guitar before and it's not simple. He shook my hand, and as we walked away, he very casuallysaid, "Rock out with your cock out"., which cracked us all up.
Talk show got started pretty soon after we walked in the doors. There were a few drunk STP fans in the audience screaming for them to play some of STP's old songs. I found this very disrespectful, it's just like asking the foo's to play Heart Shaped Box or some crap like that. Talk Show's performance? I'll just say that they did a pretty good job for it being their first performance ever. I just couldn't get into their set, they all seemed to sound the exact same. Their radio hit, Hello Hello, was the only upbeat song that was in the set, except a rocking rendition of Prodigy's Breathe.
It was a really good cover version of that techno song.
So the foo's were all set to go. I watched Pete tape the pink set lists to the floor and soon after that, things were all set. Out comes the guys and wild goes the audience. I'm positive that the setlist on this review is right, because I convinced a roadie at the end of the show to give me the setlist that Dave used.
Consisted of: Intro: really cool, really agressive piece of Wind Up with lots of drum stuff added. Dave and Taylor on drums of course. This Is A Call: rocked, nothing like the first actual song.Gas Chamber: so they had been practicing it for a reason!! This was my favorite song on the night, because I knew the words and most others didn't, so I was heard over Dave, just about anyways. Really fun, really aggressive.

Hey Johnny Park!: This time I actually focused on hearing Franz'sharmony vocalsthe most. It was really great though,as always.Monkey Wrench: What do you do when all your enemies are french?

Alone+Easy Target: Talked plenty during the quiet part, including this: "Last time we played here, we had our first real rock experience. This girl was on someones shoulders, and she lifted her shirt for us."
Doll: Was done better here than in Charlotte. Franz sang the "Ooh, Ooh" part instead, and I thought he did a great job. Nate brought out that weird Ampeg bass with the head of an upright. Me and Brandon screamed out at Nate "Hey nate!!! cool bass!!" He smiled and waved at us.
See You: Distorted part was put back in! Thanks! It was cool how everyone started doing
the lounge clapping during the pause, just like on the record.

My Poor Brain: Franz busted a string on his guitar during this one. Was done really agressively. Has and always will be one of my fav's live.

Enough Space: My voice was on it this time! I thought it was done better here.

For All The Cows: I was focusing most of my attention to Nate as he played the solos, so that maybe I could go home and decipher them maybe half as good as he does them. Also, was focused on Taylor as he did the awesome straight triplets during the chorus.

Colour + The Shape: My 2nd fav on the night, this song just rocks. On my setlist, it says "Colour+The Space" typo? Maybe.

Up In Arms: Was actually done a lot better here. In between- October1st, 1997

Review by David McBrayer

After spending the past 3 days telling the whole world about my foo adventure from Charlotte, it was time to experience another.

Me and my pals (Brandon, Bob) showed up to the place 3 and a 1/2 hours before it was to start (5:30ish). After waiting around the outside of the place and talking to a cool foo roadie, the foos tour bus showed up. There were about 3 other fans there so far. They quickly hopped off the bus in this order: Nate, Taylor, Dave, Franz: and jetted inside to do their sound check. Nate looked at me, then at my
shirt (was wearing the same Scream shirt I had on in Charlotte) and says, "Same guy right?" "yeah!"
Nate replies, "Yeah, I was thinking it'd be kind of weird for 2 different people to make the exact same shirt." As I smiled, he walked inside. Taylor pretty much ignored me, so I didn't bother calling his name out. Dave ignored me big time too, so I didn't even want to bother. Franz came out in some Tom Cruise Top Gun style sunglasses and as he walked up the steps inside I yelled out "Sup Franz?"

"Whats up man!" he said.

Pete came out as well, wearing his Vanderbilt hat (where they had been the night before).
I said hey, he acknowledged.
Well, they're all inside doing their soundcheck, the least we could get out of it is listen to them. We hear Taylor start to bang away at the skins, but then who else other than that same old fart that kicked us out in Charlotte comes outof the bus, and the first thing he says is, "How come there's no security out here?"
and immediately following his words some yellow caution tape was put up, which blocked us off from sitting so close to the buses like we were. So, standing outside the lines, we listen in on their soundcheck and practice. To my surprise, they started messing around with playing Gas Chamber, and it sounded very cool. Then after they played that about 10 times, they started playing Down In The Park, then we thought that we heard the first few notes in Requiem. Just practicing around with their cover jams. Very cool. Once they stopped, Nate came out holding the case of his bass and walks in front of us, looking for the bus (they all looked similar) "Your bus is over there" I said. Well, he hopped in this convertible with one of the roadies, and sat there for a while. By this time now, there were about 20 people outside. We decided not to bother Nate, just let him be. Dave came out, hopped in the car and all the other people out there charged the vehicle wanting an autograph. We just hung back there, watched them ride off. Event oinker told me that they were going to the mall but my guess is that they were going to the guitar store just down the street since Nate had his bass.

With a rather dissapointing pre-show compared to the last show's, we decided to head to the Micky D's down the street. Very, very quickly, we drove down there and ate extremely fast, came back. We waited outside a little more, near where we were before because noone was out there the 2 parts, Dave said, "I know, I know" Weenie Beenie: Dedicated to Talk Show, was done very well, but the guitars weren't really loud enough on this, in my opinion.

Everlong: MTV crowd start going nuts now. Franz really does do a great job on the harmonies.

New Way Home: the closing song. was up there with the list of my favorites on the night. The ending really got to me, it was very cool.

Encore:

Big Me: There was a completely new beginning that freaked me out, because I thought I was actually getting to hear a new song. We had heard them practicing it in the soundcheck before the show, but I thought they were just messing around. They ended with it also.

I'll Stick Around: it seemed so short live. I was so devoted to screaming on this song, I lost it all on this one. "Heyea, Heyeaauh. Heyea, WAHAAAAY!!!" as the ending screams. I loved it.

Overall, the show was better than the Charlotte show because it was longer. But surprisingly, there were several things that the Charlotte show had that were better. Believe it or not, the Charlotte show was in a parking lot outside, and it was louder than the ritz which is a tiny indoor club! The band seemed a lot more into it in charlotte as well. Dave was funnier at the 1st show too.
But both shows rocked.

Ah, but what about the post-show? This was on a school night, so I really shouldn't have stayed too long. After buying shirts, we went outside and saw Nate signing a few autographs as he headed onto the bus. Saw no other foos, but did see Pete Stahl. After waiting out there for about 15 min, and noone else was there, I decided I'd go check the front doors. They had kicked us out, but maybe the police weren't enforcing anymore. The doors were locked, so I waited until someone came out, then I went in while it was still open. I ran up the stairs to the balcony, there they were. Just Taylor and Dave. Taylor had 1 guy talking to him, Dave, about 10. So I approached Taylor. He recognized my shirt, and the first thing he said to me after he nodded to me was "are you going to give me hell about my snare drum again?" I told him it sounded good, and that he just hits it too hard, and thats why it sounds so weird on tv. He commented on how everyone tries to play like Dave now-a-days, and he just didn't want to exactly. and
before he could mention Stewart Copeland's name, I beat him to it. I told him he plays exactly like him, and he nodded as if to say thanks. I told him how I had been bringing the picture of me, him, and dave to school all week. Girls were giving me their phone #'s to give to Taylor.
He signed my TCATS cd, then we posed for another pic. He said "Alright, hehe" I made my way over to Dave, and waited in the line that was around him. I never got to say anything more than, "Hey man, sounded great out there tonight." and nothing more. That's ok though, he's a busy slut. He signed my TCATS cd as well.
Franz found his way up there so I found my way over to him. I posed with him for a picture and we talked about a few things I can't really remember. He too signed my TCATS cd. He posed with Bran cause he was drinking a Samuel Adams beer, and I asked him to make an advertisement for Sam Adams brewery.

I shook his hand and they walked away.
