This page is dedicated in the main to my great Grandad Magnus Johnson.
Born in Helsingborg Sweden 1853/4 he came to England we presume as a crewman on a Swedish ship. I found him in the 1881 census in South Shields and by 1883 he had married my Great Grandmother Dorothy Hunt. I have tried to find his birth in Helsingborg but without any success as there are several entries for Magnus Johnson but there is a bit of a mix up with parents names and some of the Magnus Johnson's born in Helsingborg died as children. After his Marriage to Dorothy Hunt he was a crewman on quite a few ships sailing
out of South Shields and I have the crew lists of three of these covering 1889-1891 in this order The Shearwater, start of voyage 25.1.1889 end 29.7.1889. Foscolino, start of voyage 6.2.1889 end  6.7.1889. Isaac Pennock, start of voyage 22.7. 1889 end 14.1.1890. Isaac Pennock, start of voyage 17.1.1890 end 17.6.1890. I know some of these dates overlap but on some of the ships he left before the end of the voyage.

On the 30th November 1891 in port at Grangemouth Scotland,
Magnus Johnson was working on the forecastle of the Isaac Pennock pulling in a head rope, he became entangled in the rope and was dragged through the winch. Magnus was taken to Glasgow General hospital where he died the next day 1st December (his wife's 30th birthday) from a broken neck. The death certificate has a couple of mistakes on it relating to his parents names, and there has been an attempt to amend these on the back. However I feel that the amendment is still wrong but who ever said genealogy was easy.
