The Concept
The idea for AlienResources was created in the spring of 1998 by Mikael
and Kurt Witte. Of course, at that time the product was going to be far
different. Mikael and Kurt wanted to create alien merchandise and sell
it for an outrageous price. So, Kurt bought the AlienResources domain
name. Unfortunately, neither of them knew anything about making a web
page, so the site sat dormant for approximately two years.
The Original
In the late winter of 1999, Jay Jech and Mikael started their first web
page, called "The Link Connection." It was a portal site to other "cool"
sites, and it can still be accessed here.
After they saw what they could do with HTML and its close companion JavaScript,
they set out to create AlienResources.com. At first, Jay contributed much
of the script for the site, but as time went on, Mike eventually had a
near-monopoly on what went on. (Did You Know - The original background
image of AlienResources was a picture from a hockey game Mike went to
in Canada)
The Revamp
By July of 2000, Mike's interest in his web site had picked up and here
the real work started. From the original sloppy website, Mike and Jay
completely rewrote the page to look professional and attractive. At this
point, John and Sean joined them at the company to make the PHSCP
and Band
List pages. During the summer of 2000, 90% of the AlienResources
content was written.
The Present and Beyond
Since the start of the 2000-2001 school year for all AlienResources employees,
there hasn't been nearly as many updates and new creations on the site.
In fact, the sum total of updates from September 2000 to February 2001
didn't reach the number of updates done just in July 2000. Next summer,
Mike and Jay plan to take up the site again and return it to it's former
glory.
