“Sure, he gave me your number. He mentioned
you had a place above Mario’s. So your grandfather couldn’t talk
you into a Park Avenue penthouse, huh?”
“Oh, geez, dad told you that too?”
“He mentioned it.”
“Nano wanted me to live in a place with so much security
it looked like a maximum security prison. So we compromised.
Nano’s known Mario forever. His cousin’s the green grocer across
the street. Plus there are all sorts of family members around.”
“Real or ‘extended’?”
“Both, probably.”
Carmine laughed. “Hell, you probably have more security
down there than on Park Avenue.”
“Probably,” I agreed.
“Look, the reason I called is, I’m putting a band together
and I’d like you to be in it.”
“You’re leaving the Source?" I gasped in disbelief.
