Broken Hearts and Shattered Dreams
Portals of Perception
Our lives became a whirlwind of activity. The prospective band members got along well at that first meeting, so Carmine arranged for a few rehearsals. Everything seemed to gel, so when Running on Empty officially disbanded later that month, the Renegades, as we had named ourselves, took over their gig at the Inner Circle. We were guaranteed one slot a week, fairly steady work.
Usually this meant we played Friday nights from nine to eleven, with a second set from eleven thirty to one thirty. If there was another band on the bill we would open, usually beginning at eight and playing for an hour, or until the headliner was ready to take the stage. Sometimes a headlining act would bring their own opening act. In those circumstances we would get the Sunday night slot.
Carmine and Freddy, just weeks off from a tour which sold out arenas all over the world in a matter of minutes, were playing in a small club, and loving every minute of it.
