Some Laws and Rules that relate to children.

  • Your parents have to "OK" any club, newsletter, chat, bulletin board, usenet, web ring or other online group that you want to join. A group can kick you out if they find out you joined without your parent's knowing.
  • You do NOT have to give out any personal information on any site EVEN IF THE FORM SAYS YOU DO!
  • Wherever a form asks for personal information (name, address, age, etc.) simply type "I am under 14" instead.
  • In place of a zip/postal code or phone number type a made up one. You are LEGALLY allowed to do this!!
  • You must get your parents "OK" to accept prizes or other gifts from a web site. If you do not get your parent's "OK" the company can refuse to give you your prize or gift.
  • You can ask to see what information a company is keeping on you and so can your parents.

  • Your parents can have you removed from any club, newsletter, chat, bulletin board, usenet, web ring or other online group's files without telling you.
  • Companies MUST make sure that your parents have given the "OK" for you to share personal information. If they can't make sure your parent's have given you the "OK" they can refuse to deal with you.
  • You can not buy anything online.
  • You can not work for pay or other "rewards" online.
  • You can not be denied a service because of your age. A company can not ask you for personal information before they will deal with you UNLESS the company is adult in nature. For example, a web site can not MAKE you tell them where you live before giving you access.
  • A company CAN end your membership if it finds out you lied about your age BUT it can not end your membership if you lie about where you live or give them a fake e-mail address.

These protections are for kids 14 years old and younger. Only websites that come from the U.S.A. are bound by these laws

Pornography | Back To Top

In most places the legal age is 18 and in some 21 to view pornography. Some sites however allow users that are underage to easily view their material. There are some programs such as NetNanny that prevent this. If the person is not of legal age then they are breaking the law. This is easy to prevent by making safety checks where the person purchases a password with a credit card. Since people under 18 don't have a credit card then they cannot access the site. But the kids can still uses someone else's' credit card. The only thing I have to say is if you aren't older enough then don't. Your computer has ways of telling on you.
