Multi-Player gaming information
This is my multi-player info page. If you have any corrections or questions, please
feel free to Mail me. I would
appreciate the mail. Now on to the real stuff. Below are several ways to do some
multi-player gaming and their respective explanations. Enjoy!
Most people multiplayer gaming experiences start with online gaming. Their are
many different online services and/or databases, but I think the best one is Kali.
Now for a one-time-fee of $20 you get unlimited gaming for life and unlimited support.
This is a great deal in my opinion, so I guess that is why I am spending so much time
on it. Other services are on my links page such as Heat,
MPlayer or The Internet Gaming Zone.
Now most of these services, unless you and the person you're playing against have really fast computers,
have a lot of lag(starting and stopping) and aren't very great. But they are a great way
to play multiple players from all over the world.
Next, if you have two computers, modem-to-modem isn't a bad way to play. In this,
two people play by calling each other's modem and they establish a connection that way.
Now if you're really going to do this you must know the phone number to the other person's
modem. If you don't just have you're opponent call you. Usually you'll want the person
with the fastest computer to call you're computer. This usually cuts down on lag greatly
and is generally a good way to connect. I would reccommend this for everybody because
it is a great way for 2-player-gaming and usually has no lag.
Thirdly, I would like to highlight a direct connection. This I think is the best, and
cheapest way to setup a "network". In a direct connection all you have to do is buy a
null cable(about $20) and hook it up to both computers through a serial port. You can
usually go to about 30 or 40 feet away without a serious loss in performance. This in my opinion
is a great way to connect and is the BEST for two-player gaming. At home, I have one of
the MoFo's setup and it is great! You should seriously do it.
Finally, a genuine IPX-compatible network is the best. YOu can get one of these suckers
through 100's of computers without any loss of performance. I would HIGHLY reccommend setting
up one of the Mother Fuckers if you have multiple computers at home, school, work, etc.
These things are the ultimate in multiplayer gaming, and if you want to know how to set up
one visit my Setting Up a Network page.
