Faqproxy:
This was the first proxy for Quake offering more than just packetrouting.
Because of its Teamplay Features (%-reporting) it became very popular in
most countrys. Unfortunately here in Germany it was banned from the Servers,
because it was considered cheating, but in my opinion it´s nothing
compared with clans who play together in the same room. It also offers
a poweruptimer, which as long as you use it in teamplay only is just fair,
because lan-clans normaly have a dedicated person for poweruptiming.
This Proxy is the only one of its type available for Netquake and also
for Quakeworld 2.1, but no newer versions of QW, because the authors didn´t
continue the project. The Webpage is here.
Qizmo:
Because Faqproxy didn´t work with Quakeworld 2.2 it didn´t
take long until there was a new proxy with even more options, a very good
interface, it´s own server browser and even with voice support. Unfortunately
you have to pay 20$, the shareware only works for 15 minutes. You have
to judge yourself if it´s worth the money.
It supports the QW Versions 2.0x, 2.1, 2.21, 2.29 and 2.30, more infos
and downloads are here.
Cheapo:
But there is an alternative to Qizmo, and as the name already says,
it doesn´t cost you any money. The only thing it will cost you is
time to configure the proxy, because it doesn´t have such a great
interface and the documentation isn´t that good. Some of the options
are also missing and there is no support for problems, so you should only
use it if you already have experience with proxys.
It supports the QW Versions 2.1, 2.21, 2.29 and 2.30, more infos and
downloads are here.
[NF]Proxy:(i use this one)
This is a very new proxy and is right now only available as beta, but
it already looks quite interesting. It is for free just as cheapo. It also
has some more features cheapo and qizmo don´t have, like intelligent
poweruptimers, intelligent communication and very nice statistics. Unfortunately
it doesn´t have all features of cheapo yet, but it´s just a
beta.
