Nine companies speak about Sega's recent announcements

Famitsu recently had the chance to talk to nine major gaming companies about Sega's latest decision on becoming platform agnostic. Check out what they said or (in two cases) didn't say:

Enix: "We are not in a position to say things about their business judgment. But we suppose that Enix and Sega can continue to give the gaming industry a boost by developing quality games."

Capcom: "Although we were surprised by their sudden statement, we didn't suffer any particular negative effects since Dreamcast's hardware discontinuation had already been forecasted to some degree and we are always ready to take different measures to smooth out all possible contingency problems. We will release the titles that have already been announced for the console, including BIOHAZARD -CODE: Veronica- Complete Version, as well as other ones currently under development, as planned. So, all Dreamcast users, please rest assured."

Konami: No comment

Square: No comment

SCEA (Sony): "We recognize that Sega - who has created numerous high-quality games with their sophisticated skills -- is one of the top software developers in the world. We would like to welcome Sega to the fold since they will greatly broaden users options once their attractive games are brought to our PlayStation and PlayStation 2. We expect Sega's decision to sign-on to the PlayStation platforms will be quite an asset, one that will surely drive the sales of our consoles."

Namco: "Sega and Namco have been rivals, as well as close partners, for 40 years. We hope to help the gaming industry develop soundly by continuing to compete and cooperate each other."

Microsoft: "It would please us more than anything should Sega choose to develop games for our Xbox, as one of their options. We have not reached a stage where we can get down to business yet, but we will continue talks with Sega."

Nintendo: "We earnestly desire Sega to develop quality games that can take full advantage of Nintendo's consoles and handhelds."

Bandai: "We recognize that Sega's software development property and ability ranks among the top in the gaming world. We have great hopes that Sega's game titles will stimulate the industry even more."

Sony seems very happy that one of their main competitors in the "Console Wars" has been "defeated" prematurely. I guess we will see some real top-quality games on the Playstation consoles--and don't forget Gamecube and X-Box--from the best game developer in the world.
