ABOUT THE LETTERS
June 30 (1930)

Dear Will and Tessie
Both your good letters received and enjoyed but I must plead laziness as an excuse for delay in writing altho in point of fact I have not been very robust. Have been looking for Auntie MJ to come, but a letter from her Sat reveals the fact that she too has been quite under the weather. She will come however if she improves sufficiently. Also had a letter from Cousin Jennie Eastern of Watertown. Very interesting. Mentioned a cousin who lives in Canton whose abouts I had not known for some ears. She is Abbie Royal. Her mother was a daughter of Uncle Abiel Hobart. It comforts me a lot to hear of and from these dear ones. Tessie I did so enjoy your good letter. Have read it many time ove and I am sure you are doing your part in making of others happy. Happiness is the greatest good and when we contribute to the happiness of others we have given of our best. Will: lets drop the teacher question. We are not dealing with it from the same standpoint. With me it is a principle, with you it is a purely a personal affront.
The families are all well and busy. All of Will Van H's children have been home this summer. On Sun Jun 2 was the family reunion. There were in all 22 present. It was a jolly bunch and all seemed happy. ??'s boy is fine and she makes a lovely mother. I am enclosing a map which the family insisted upon on Easter Sunday. He (Derk) was about 4 mos old. I thank you so much for the picture of the Castle. I know you must enjoy it. There would to me be something fascinating in remembering such an old home. What are you doing with the land. Has Floyd turned farmer. If so I'd love to be with him awhile. Cant you tell me in you next the results of yours and Frank's several conferences about coming to Iowa this summer? I see you folks have had terribly warm weather. We have had but few ver warm days. The country is beautiful. Is green and fresh. Well I'll close with love to each and all. Going up to Church to eat strawberry shortcake. The last of the season. Write soon. Auntie AC
