Conley overpowers batters with perfect pitch

Perfection is something Leah Conley is always striving for. Most of the people who watch and know her would agree that Conley has reached perfection, but she believes she can always do better.

“I hate downtime, all I want to do is work on pitching. I’m never satisfied with what I do and I can always be better,” commented senior pitcher Conley.
This attitude has made Conley one of the best and most respected pitchers in the league.

Growing up, Conley was introduced to softball by her mother, a former pitcher for Council Rock who continued to play for 17 years. Conley began playing around 10 years old when she started pitching for her travel team, located in Bristol. Even at the age of 12, Conley proved she could play with the older girls. “When I was 12, I was playing in a national tournament and I pitched a perfect game,” said Conley. “It was one of the most exciting moments of my life.”

Conley developed her skills at an amazing rate. She worked hard and began to distance herself from her other competitors.

By the time she was ready to begin her freshman year of high school she was already better than most of the other players on the team. She was the starting pitcher for the varsity team and she never looked back.

Conley continued to work hard, trying to improve on everything she could. Conley worked with a pitching coach, with whom she worked with on the off-season. “I go crazy in the 'off season’ I have to pitch. I love to get out and work with my pitching coach, it really helps me,” said Conley.

This extreme work ethic has paid off for Conley. She has now become one of the most reliable pitchers Neshaminy has seen in a long time.

Over the last four years, Conley has been the primary pitcher for the Skins’. She led the team to a state playoff birth in her freshman year. Since then, the team has not made it back to states and Conley plans on changing that. “My goal, like everyone else, is to win states. But I really want to make sure I do get back there in my last year,” said Conley.

After her senior year Conley plans on attending James Madison University in Virginia. There she plans on playing softball. “I am really looked forward to it, its just a little warmer there,” said Conley.

While Conley is very excited at her future school, she has her focus set on finishing this year strong. “I want to work on my leadership this season. We have an amazing team and I want to make all the girls believe that,” said Conley.

With Conley’s leadership and the help of her team, there is no telling how far they can go.
