'Skins slice through fierce competition

The Neshaminy boys’ tennis team has been causing a real “racket” this year, starting of the season winning matches against respectable tennis teams of Central Bucks West and Bensalem.

The match against C.B.West was a win that has more meaning than most. West had beaten the ‘Skins consecutively for a number of years, but this year that streak ended with an exceptional win for the guys.

The key athletes that have been contributing to the team’s success include seniors Matt DiFerdinando, Michael Jordan, Gregg Price, captain junior John Thiel, Jerry Bizon and sophomore Dan Kleiman.

Even with things rolling smoothly now, there were coaching conflicts with the absence of assistant coach Jill Hathaway who is taking leave this season in pursuit of her masters degree in counseling.

Because Hathaway intended on missing only this season, it was difficult to find a replacement willing to substitute for only this year. The problem has, fortunately, been resolved.

Head coach Mark Rosenfeld has decided to continue the season without any presence of an assistant coach.

Due to the fact that Rosenfeld is now the only acting coach, both varsity and junior varsity teams were combined into just varsity. The creation of just one team resulted in the cutting of players from this year’s numerous turn out.

“I think the team is better overall this year,” explained Price. “The fact that we had cuts this year makes everyone work harder and play a lot better.”

With the season getting off to such a hopeful start, the remaining games against division rivals Council Rock and Pennsbury are highly anticipated.

“We’re going to do our best to win all remaining matches - particularly Council Rock and Pennsbury,” said Rosenfeld. “They’re exceptionally strong, and we’re generally above the rest of the teams in our division. I believe we will match up well.”

The team agrees with Rosenfeld’s hopefulness. “I’m pretty optimistic we’ll hold together and finish the season strong,” commented Thiel. “Doubles will continue to dominate, and we should be able to keep up the great work.”

The 'Skins intend to continue their success on the tennis courts by practicing hard and encouraging each other. The 'Skins remain focused, hardworking, and determined.
