Volleyball set for tough season

The boy’s volleyball team has started off the season on the right foot. They currently have the record of 5-3 overall and 4-3 in the S.O.L. division.

Coming into the season, the ‘Skins only had one returning player from the varsity team last year. The player returning is senior Eric Soroka. He stepped up last year and earned a spot on the varsity team.

The inexperience is the main obstacle this year’s team has to overcome.
Seniors that are on varsity and will need to play hard are Dave Bond, Brandon Ettinger, Ryan Lowing, Pete Markman, an dSoroka. The 'Skins also will be relying on good play from juniors Dave Pryor, Jeff Robins, Brian Walter, and sophomores Tad Macfarlan, Jim Rodgers, and Matt Sock.

The ‘Skins have beat Abington, Truman, Haverford, North Penn, and Bensalem. They dropped some tough losses to Council Rock, C.B. West, and Pennsbury.

However, the boys are on course with their game plan. “We have an inexperienced team,” said coach Bill Ferrara. “We have a plan in place, and right now, except for the loss in the [C.B.] West match, we’re right on target.”

The team is playing well. They have 178 kills, 22 aces on serves, 97 digs, 92 total team blocks, a serve percentage of 92%, and a kill efficiency of .255.
“We have a solid team. In the second half of the season we should jell more and play better together," said Soroka.

As the season progresses, the team will grow together and get to know each other better. They will learn to work as a team and read what each player is thinking so that they can react as it happens. This will give them the opportunity to have a successful season.
