..or beating around the Bush?

Ever since the beginning of the presidency of the United States, the Electoral College voting system has been used to elect the leader of our country every four years. This process has worked since the beginning, and it should continue to determine our president.

As of now, George W. Bush has been declared the winner of the final electoral votes of Florida. The state of Florida had the final votes that determined who was to be our next president, and when the final votes were tallied, they declared the right man the winner. That man was Bush.

After the controversial recounting was complete, supporters of Gore announced that the Electoral College system was outdated and should be disposed of. They said that the popular vote should determine who was president.

Why should the voting system be altered now? Only because Gore did not win? I don’t think that this is reason enough to change our way of electing the president. It has worked since the beginning, and it will continue to function successfully. People just need to accept the fact that sometimes their vote is the wrong one.

Bush has won the election fairly. He didn’t cheat. Al Gore is the one who is trying to trick the system by not accepting that he did not win the necessary amount of electoral votes like Bush did. He did not gain enough of the proper support that is needed to win the election.

Someone can have all the experience in the world in one subject matter, but that experience doesn’t necessarily guarantee that that person is capable of doing a better job than someone with less experience. The person, in this case, Al Gore, has been exposed to the misconducts and illegalities of the position that he is attempting to achieve. This influence will negatively effect the decisions made and the management of our country.

Bush’s beliefs and ideas are what I believe won him the final votes in Florida. His pro-life tendencies as a great aspect of his campaign and what he stands for. Abortion is wrong. The government doesn’t have the right to control women’s choices, but it does have the responsibility to protect the lives of innocent babies. Therefore, abortion should be eliminated as a choice for women.

George W. Bush may not have won the popular vote, but he did win the presidency the right way: through the Electoral College. Gore needs to acknowledge that he didn’t win, and he’s not the right man for this election.
