Holiday spirited sounds enlighten audience

The Holiday Concert featuring the Women’s Choir, Chanticleers, Men’s Choir, Orchestra and Concert Choir was held on Tuesday, Dec. 5. The groups performed extraordinarily well and captivated the attention of families and friends in attendance.

“Our music program is so strong because the administration, teachers, parents and students all work together,” said Music Director Roy Nelson during the performace. The performance proved this to be true as each group presented a superior effort. The concert opened with the Women’s Choir, under the direction of Nelson and they immediately set an enthusiastic tone.

After singing their two songs, the Chanticleers took the stage and sang two numbers, including He Watching Over Israel. The Chanticleers are a premiere group that is formed through auditions only, and gave the audience a superb performance.

The third group to take the stage was the Men’s Choir directed by Garry Warlow. They performed three selections, including the song Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. Men’s Choir was adorned with red noses to accompany their Christmas selection. The last selection was a quartet featuring: Dennis Dixon, Greg Horst, Tom Walls and Ben McDowell.

The songs created an atmosphere full of the holiday spirit. “Everyone worked really hard so far this year, and we sang a great concert,” commented Deven Miller, senior, vice president of Concert Choir.

Next, the Orchestra performed four selections, and sticking with the holiday theme. They played Selections from the Nutcracker Suite. Directed by Lipton, the Orchestra combined their sound of string and wind instruments to produce an overall excellent performance. "I thought the Orchestra performed an outstanding concert and I really enjoyed the enthusiasm the audience had," said Lipton.

After a brief intermission, the Concert Choir began their selections to round out the Holiday Concert. They sung a total of eight songs, including: Light One Candle, Deck the Hall, We Wish You A Merry Christmas, and The Sleigh. The Concert Choir provided an exceptional performance and recieved a standing ovation from the audience.

The Concert Choir finished their final selections, concluding another exceptional Holiday Concert for teh music program.

The concert was a complete success and the music department is looking forward to more superb performances at the Winter Concert taking place on Wed., Jan. 17.

This concert will feature the instrumental gruops Symphonic Bands and the Wind Ensemble.

The music department has proved once again the hard work and dedication put forth in their music and performances.
