Dont be surprised
when youre sitting in the bleachers on Friday nights this
season and you can recognize most of the faces on the Boys Basketball
team. Having nine players returning with varsity experience out
of a 14-man roster should help the 'Skins greatly this year.
The lone sophomore of
the bunch Ryan Giblin, has potential and is showing constant signs
of improvement.
Even though the skins
have experience, the acquisition of new head coach Joe Blair will
bring a new system in and a new coaching staff.
Im excited
about my staff and I really like my team," said Blair. "I
think were at a little disadvantage because were bringing
in a totally new system. Well probably get better as we go
toward the end of the season."
Blair is also a well-respected
English teacher at our school and has high expectations for the
team this year.
The tri-captains Bryan
Lawton, Sherman Brittingham, and Brandon Ettinger lead this years
team with much dedication. Lawton, who was second-team all-league
last season averaged 13.8 points a game.
Sherman, also a star
on the football field, will be taking off his cleats and stepping
on the court this season, and is a key player for the 'Skins this
year.
Ettinger, who is coming
off a heart breaking torn Anterior Crutiat Ligament, which he injured
in a scrimmage that ended his season last year, looks to come back
strong and is hoping to contribute this season.
My knee is feeling
good, I might be a little slower against the quicker teams but it
will hold up," Ettinger said.
Everyone is back
from last season, we are really playing together and working together
well. The new coaching staff is wonderful, and very supportive,
we cant wait to get started," Ettinger said.
With a league full of
strong teams such as Council Rock, Pennsbury, and Truman, this year
should be a tough one for the 'Skins. The Redskins still remain
confident and are looking foreward to the tough competition.
The 'Skins had their
first taste of competition on Friday, Dec. 1, where they travelled
to Cheltenham. They achieved their goal by winning the game 55-49.
Bryan Lawton led the team with 18 points, Mark Tingle and Craig
Robinson each had 12 points.
"I really like the
potential of the team this year. How quickly they pick up our system
and philosophy will determine our strength," said Blair. "We
will greatly rely on senior leadership this season."
