team prepares for wave of victories
|
The Neshaminy boys swimming
team's only goal for this year is to gain experience. Don't get me
wrong, they're in it to win but having youth and lack of practice
time it's hard to do.
The boys are coming back from a 4-9 season last year. This year, they're
hoping for strong performances from seniors John Buschman (freestyle,
breaststroke) and Jeff Giletto(butterfly, individual medley), along
with juniors Dan Buschman (individual medley, breaststroke), Bill
Lieb (distance freestyle), Ray Keown (distance freestyle), and sophomore
Jared Brown (individual medley).
"We're a small team but we're good," Brown said. "My
only expectation for this year is to win at least one more meet than
last year," he added.
Unfortunately, the boys started the season off on the wrong foot.
They lost their opening meet to Cheltenham 91-79 on Dec. 5. "We
lost but we had a good meet," coach Dan Gallagher said.
Despite strong performances from both Dan and John Buschman, along
with Keown, the 'Skins fell to a strong Holy Ghost team. They lost
105-65.
Not only do they have a young team, but they've added some new faces
this year.
"We have some new swimmers that have been working well but they
need to participate more," commented Gallagher.
Despite losing key swimmers from last year, they should be able to
hold their own. "With the extra man power this year, we should
be better," Gilleto said.
Over the season, expect the 'Skins only to get better. Each meet is
full of experience they need and will help them to become a more competative
team. |
