Girls' swim team made splash at Pennsbury Carnival

The Neshaminy girls swim team kicked off the start of their season on Dec. 1, with many standout performances at the Pennsbury Carnival.

District qualifications were made by the 200 freestyle relay team of sophmores Stephanie Andreozzi, Arianne Rayner, junior Chrissy MacMillan, and senior Dawn McCann.

The relay team was the first team to qualify for the event in two years. A solo qualification was made by Andreozzi in the 50 yard freestyle.

The girls started their dual meet season with a win againstCheltenham, 94-86, on Dec. 5.

First place finishers were the 200 medley relay team of MacMillan, McCann, Rayner, and Andreozzi. Kaitlin Chrobocinski placed first in the 200 free style, Andreozzi in the 50 free style and 100 free style, Rayner in the 100 butterfly and 100 back stroke and Dawn McCann in the 500 free style.

With a 2-11 record last year, head coach Brian Suter hopes to improve upon their previous record.

"My goals for the season are to see times drop and make as many district qualifications as possible," said Suter."Records are not that important to me. I just want to see the girls improve."

Suter has started a club swim team called Core Swimming. The club is a year round organization for all ages. Although the club is just starting, Suter hopes to expand the program.

"The goal of the club is to develop Neshaminy School District kids into great swimmers by the time they get to high school," he said. "We are in a powerhouse league, where all of the other schools have age group programs."

Captains of the team are seniors Megan Rodden and Pam Brockwell. With only four seniors, they are a very young and inexperienced team. Rodden, Brockwell, McCann, and Alexa Sicilliano provide senior leadership.

"Swimming is such a great work out, and it's fun to hang out with girls that are equally dedicated as you," said MacMillan.

Dedication is one of the assests the girls swim team possesses. They practice six days a week, for three hours each day.

"This may be the fastest girls swim team Neshaminy High School ever had," commented Suter.

The next home meet will be held on Dec. 21 against Lower Moreland, at Poquessing Middle School.
