For the past month, the media has been focusing their attention
on an extremely negative event that occurred in our school.
Just recently students, teachers, and parents have
spoken out with words of anger and resentment against the media.
They are discouraged at the way the media hasportrayed
the school and wish that the focus would be on positive aspects
of Neshaminy.
Two members of Student Council, Lauren Zimmermann
and Michael Taylor, wrote the Bucks County Courier Times about their
disappointment in the media. The editorial stated: It would
seem that the students have handled this unfortunate matter with
more maturity than the adult members of the media.
Senior Shawn Hyska wrote to the Courier Times about
his concern for the papers lack of reports on positive issues involving
our school. He wrote about issues such as our school hosting the
Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Region 12 Conference Competition
just a few weeks ago.
Its a shame that the adult media could
not handle the situation more appropriately than high school students
would, commented senior class officer Justin Meservie.
Parents also wanted to see more stories about all
of the talented participants in the school musical Crazy for
You.
Business Education teacher Staci Simon stated that
she is truly sorry that the Courier Times does not seem interested
in good kids doing great things.
Neshaminy students are doing great things that need
to be recognized by the community. They are involved in so many
different co-curricular activities. Some of these activities include:
Greater Philadelphia, SADD & SAVE, The Playwickian, yearbook,
athletics, musicians, FBLA, Mock Trial club, Laughingstock and so
many others.
On March 2 and 3 students were involved in Gym Night,
an event filled with excitement and pride. They banned together
at the end of this two night event, and became one.
They did not think about all of the negative things
that have been said about our school, or did they care. The students
were only concerned with having fun and being part of a Neshaminy
tradition.
We have forgotten the disgraceful incident
and have drawn our attention to more important things that we will
cherish for the rest of our lives, said senior Kelly Garvin.
Deep in our hearts we know what Neshaminy is truly about.
