School records shattered at state meet

 

The indoor track team sent 14 athletes to the Pennsylvania State Indoor Track Championships on Sat. March 3 held at Penn State University.

Nine girls and five boys qualified and competed in the prestigious event. Five school records were shattered by the girls team. Kim Rubin placed seventh in the 60 meter hurdles with a new school record time of 9.53 seconds.

Michele Stahl placed tenth in the 800 meter run setting a new school record in 2:21.3.

The 4X200 meter relay of Nikki Reed, Lindsay Jenkins, Kristen Malloy, and Rubin placed 19th in 1:49.5, posting a new school record time.

The 4X800 meter relay team of Stahl, Tara Ebert, Angela Miles, and Erin Vaccarro placed 16th in 9:53.0, also breaking the old school record previously held by the same team. Liz Moskus competed in the high jump, clearing 5' 0".

"Overall, the season was a great success and that showed in the number of athletes that we had competing at the state level," assistant coach Ray Short said. "They are a great group of girls with a lot of talent."

The boys team sent the 4X400 meter relay team consisting of Matt Stafford, Brett McMonagle, Matt Sherlock, and David Sherman. The team completed the race in 3:33.92, the fastest time all year.

"The guys ran fantastic," head coach Chuck Lumio said. "It's a great lead in for the spring. I'm really looking foward to watching this relay soar."
