Personal Thoughts On The Pacific Crest Trail in 2000

General      January  February March April May June

In April of 2000 Terry Larkin and I will be off hiking the Pacific Crest Trail. We will Hike the entire trail as a fund raiser for the Boys To Men Mentoring Network. The Official Hike 2000 Web Site is up and running

Planning Meeting 30 November 1999

Terry and I met last night to start planning out itinerary. We completed a skeleton of the first 19 days of the hike.

We plan on doing a very long first day light packing and have someone meet us with our backpacks at Lake Morena. Then A short day with full packs. A couple of easy days and then we start out first water crunch with a drop into Anza-Boreggo. Then a couple of long hot days to Warner Springs. A few more water concerns getting to Idylwild. A long layover at Idyllwild.

We have had a group of about 20 people rent the pine tree lodge in Idyllwild for a weekend of just hanging out and being together away from each other. We are considering doing that this weekend and then getting back on the trail. Terry has been leading the organization of that in past years but someone else may have to step up for that to happen this time.

This part of the planning is fun, and will be even more so when we get the Topographic maps to verify our skeleton plan.

December 18

Richard and Kimberly gave me my Christmas gift a week early and it was a titanium pot. How cool can it get.  I was surprised at how excited I was over a pot. In a lot of areas it looks like I am going to go very nicely equipped and having things like titanium pots are going to really make a difference in how much I enjoy this hike. I was in Rei and A-16 looking at backpacks this morning. I am definitely going with the Makalu Pro. 4500 square inches and 4 pounds 14 ounces. This next week I have to finish the brochure for hike 2000.

December 27

OK for all intents and purposes the holidays are finally over and we can get back on track for the hike.

December 29

The brochures and business cards for the fundraising activities were sent to Partners printing, which has kindly agreed to produce them for free, Thank you partners printing. I don't usually enjoy putting together brochures and the like but I certainly did enjoy this one since I have so much invested in it.
