I Got Rhythm…

I’ve set up these pages as a resource for finding good dance music that’s fun to listen to.  “Good” dance music means that the music has a strong, definite beat that fits a particular Ballroom-type dance.  The big problem is that a lot of popular music doesn’t have suitable rhythm.  The other problem is that most of the “Ballroom Dance music” out there just stinks.

Anyway, here are my picks for some great danceable music, most of it from my own collection, and in no particular order.

Aladdin, Original Soundtrack
Track #6, “Friend Like Me” sung by Robin Williams - International Quickstep
    Funny song, good tempo.

The Hits, Garth Brooks
Track #1, “Ain’t Going Down (Til The Sun Comes Up)” - International Jive
    Lots and lots of energy.

Forrest Gump, Original Soundtrack
Track #1, “Hound Dog” sung by Elvis Presley - American Swing
    What is there to say?
Track #5, “Land of 1000 Dances” by Wilson Pickett - International Jive
    Another high-energy Jive.

Then And Now, the Best of The Monkees
Track #7, “I’m A Believer” - American Swing/International Jive
There’s no shortage of fun Swing music.  This one’s right between on the speed.

Mouse House, Disney’s Dance Mixes
Track #4, “The Tiki Tiki Tiki Room (Macarena Dance Version)” - International Samba
A fun blend of two hauntingly familiar melodies make for a great dance.

Pretty Woman, Original Soundtrack
Track #9, “Fallen” sung by Lauren Wood - American Rumba
Great Rumba, romantic and just the right speed for AR.

Pulp Fiction, Original Soundtrack
Track #9, “You Never Can Tell” by Chuck Berry - International Jive/American Swing
Just too much fun to dance to.  Speed right in the middle of the two, though.

Selena, Original Soundtrack
Tracks #1&3, “Disco Medley, parts I & II” sung by Selena - Hustle
Great disco songs by a great singer.
Track #4, “Is It The Beat?” sung by Selena - Hustle
    Cool techno-style Hustle.
Track #9, “I Could Fall In Love” sung by Selena - American Bolero
A very romantic, but less slinky kind of Bolero, a touch slow.

Track #10, “Only the Good Die Young” - American Swing
